Re: Poke Bayou
Me and DeBo are both pretty much "for sure". We were thinking of going up early at first, but now leaning towards sleeping at home and going up early. Will most likely be taking two canoes, trolling motor, tools - so may not be able to pool with others, but not against caravaning to some extent or being sure to meet somewhere.
I assume you're picking up your own Dutch oven stuff now, but the offer to get it to HS is still valid.

Re: Poke Bayou
Maggie, that sounds good. I don't have a definite idea about how we should load your boats, but my bars are 78" and the boat I'll have with me is around 35" wide, so there should be plenty of space. Why don't we meet at the Park Hill Baptist Church/Bank of America parking lot at the corner of JFK and C street? 6:00 should be early enough for us to sort everything out and still arrive on time. Cowper, that's right on your way as well if y'all decide you want to meet us there. If not that's cool too. I'll try and remember to throw in a shovel. Is there anything else you'd like me to bring? Maybe a comealong?maggiepowell wrote:Jason and I are going. Do you want to consolidate Luke? We have 2 kayaks. My car (Civic) is no good for more than 2.Deuce wrote:Who's going? Re: Poke Bayou
Flows through Batesville and empties into the White River just upstream of the 167 bridge. The area that is now Batesville was referred as Poke Bayou beginning in 1812 until was renamed by James Bates. See the sticky for more details.happy happy happy wrote:Where is Poke Bayou? Re: Poke Bayou
It's unlikely I'll be able to check in here again before I hit the road tomorrow. The proposed meeting place is a bit off my route, so I won't go there unless I receive confirmation that someone wants me to. Maggie, Sigs, Cowper, or anyone else so inclined please call or text me @ five01-951-eight63five if you want to meet. If I don't hear from anyone I will head straight to Batesville.
You come too.

Re: Poke Bayou
For folks that are wondering - as of 6 PM Friday, NWS is still saying there will be a break in the rain tomorrow and temps will hit 81 degrees in Batesville. Fog is also predicted.
While of course Sunny and 81 would be even better, all indications are that it will be warm enough and dry enough for this to come off tomorrow. I'm thinking fog rarely lasts all day, so maybe we'll get that sunshine too!

Re: Poke Bayou
Weather report from Cushman has at least 1-2 inches of rain that moved through the area Friday morning which means it fell in watershed for the Bayou. Trees are still green to some extent. And temps are at 60 degrees as of now in Hiram so it's still comfortable in Batesville.

Re: Poke Bayou
I was hoping for a low float - I have a couple of tires spotted that were on the bottom - if the water is high, or murky, may be hard to locate and retrieve them. But we'll do what ever we can do.
Roger, you're watching close, will we see you tomorrow?

Use whatever sources you want, Mike. I will use my eyes for that one.
And the rainfall should not impact it too much since there is still a lot of trees with their green on.
Not making this one, Cowper! Trying to finish up some landscaping chores today before the rains return.
