Any river's running around X-mas/New Years

Post by peterholcombe » Mon Oct 08, 2012 3:46 pm

I'll be visiting some family in Hot Springs over the holidays and was wondering if that is a time any of the rivers are typically running? I know this is still a ways off and many of the rivers are dependent on rain. Just looking for a typical expectation.
I'm most interested in the Cossatot but would be into most anything from playboating to creaking.

Peter, most years there will be something running around that time but there are no guarantees. One can never count on the Cossatot, but the Caddo would be a more likely candidate. You'll just have to wait and see. Check the gauges the week before and post up on this forum if your looking for other to go with. BOB

Bring your boat :kayak: regardless. As Chi-Town Bob says the Caddo would be the odds on favorite to be running, but the South Fourche along with the Little Missouri might be in play. Seen predictions of a wet winter for our state as well as dry. Who knows. Right now we're getting a regular dose of the wet stuff, the trees will quit sucking, and some creeks are already primed.

Check back in a week or so in advance of your arrival and ask then! Might even find a trip in the making.
