I know I do, but it seems to be catching on amongst the professional athletes as well.

I'm not sure the link is solid.. Either way, the answer is yes.

I saw part of it before it moved or whatever - it wasn't 100% clear whether he was running it backwards by accident or on purpose... either way I doubt anyone running Gorilla "sucks" at kayaking, even if he was having an off day!

Re: Do you suck at kayaking?
I never ran the Green Backwards and probably will never go there again at my age and in my physical condition. I know I have regressed in skills. I can accept that and just hope I continue to know my limitations.
BUT back when I was guiding on the Chattooga (many years ago), I ran Section III (yep - over 13 miles - just once) and section IV several times backwards, all the way. It started on a dare from another guide, but once started, I found that it openned my eyes so much that I kept wanting to do it. It lets you see things and possibilities about the river that it might take years and hundreds of runs to notice. I never got bored with the Chattooga, even after 2000 runs. I made it a habit to stick my nose or tail into places most folks will never go. Great skill honer for eddy hitting contests. As far as we knew back then, I was the first guide to get 15 eddies in Entrance above 1.7. Ran center of Entrance once at 2.7 once going for 16. Mistake! It can really hold at that level, and can try to pin your boat to the bottom, but with the rest of 5 falls below at 2.7, it is great incentive not to swim. Got stuck in the bottom hole at Corkscrew at 2.7 and rising fast another time, for over 5 minutes. What worked on the first run did not the second time with more water. Les Bechdel was running safety boat for NOC that day and we usually kept good out of sight separation between the trips. I had run back up to run someone's boat down for them. He dropped down to set rope at Corkscrew and when he got out of his boat and set up, there I was, STILL stuck in the hole and fadeing fast. Thank you once again Les! I will always owe you for that one, no matter how many timesI pass it on.
What I am saying Jon, is if you do not now, you will eventually.

The one with Harlan in it is the best ocoee video ever. Pat sees the river through a different set of eyes.mgood wrote: Harlan Hughes makes his pro kayaking debut:
