Hello everyone.
New member here. I'm a college student in Conway. I like to paddle, but I don't have many people to go with, and I'm new to the area. I'm from Missouri, so I have some experience with rivers there, (the Niangua, the James, and the North Fork of the White) but so far the only Arkansas rivers I've explored are the Buffalo, the Little Maumelle, and Cadron Creek. I'm looking for more chances to paddle, and I'm open for any waters up to class III. I have a pretty tight schedule right now, but I'm usually free on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday afternoons. Hit me up if you'd like to go... hopefully Cadron Creek will finally have enough water to paddle soon.
One more thing; I almost forgot to mention what boats I have. I have a Discovery 169 canoe and a 10 ft. Old Town Vapor kayak. Once I get some more experience I'd like to get a boat more suited for whitewater, but for now I need to save money.

Welcome, Colt! I'm sorry that you just missed a wonderful weekend with several of the folks on here. We just finished with Rendezvous. Don't worry about your lack of funds for whitewater boats, many of us have habits to feed (boating) and finding water on which to paddle. Additionally, we are generally a great group of people who are happy to help educate each other.
Once again, welcome to the group! I look forward to meeting you soon!
See ya in the water!

Welcome aboard, man. I'm thinking about a Little Maumelle trip possibly tomorrow, and would appreciate the company. I'm also rocking out in a Discovery 169, and it's a hand me down boat, but it serves me very well. Hit me up with a PM if you wanna get together for a quick day trip.

When it comes up look for big piney trips. It is close to your location and an awesome run.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I look forward to meeting some of you guys on the water.
@Steve: I didn't realize how close the big piney was close to my area, but I'll have to check that out sometime.
@fryingsquirrel: Sorry I missed your trip on the LIttle Maumelle. So far I've been pretty satisfied with my Discovery 169. It's extremely tough and carries a lot of weight. The biggest downside for me is that it's slow, but when I'm going downriver that's not as much of a problem.

Did you mean "all day" Tuesday and Wednesday, afternoons only on Sunday, or was that more like "available in the afternoon only" on all three days?
Either way, if you think your future interests include doing some white water, some Wednesdays you could catch a ride with me down to the UALR pool sessions and work on learning to roll a WW boat. Although I think some people focus too much on just rolling the boat and not enough on other boating skills, having a good roll really opens up the door to a different class of white water while still keeping it relatively safe. Plus the pool sessions are usually fun and involve supper afterwards where you can pick the brains of other boaters for places to go and things to do.
You would enjoy Debo's swamp tours if you ever have a full day Saturday or Sunday to join. (see the Fall Wetland Touring Schedule 2012 thread). On many, we might be able to split fuel costs since Debo and I generally head down for the day from Conway.
Its a bit low and nasty now, but when we get a little flow in Palarm Creek, there is a short section below Lake Conway that meanders through the Grassy Lakes area. That is something you could easily (and cheaply) get to from Conway even when you have only the afternoon to work with.

Just in the afternoon.

I realized that's not a lot of time, but I thought I'd let people know when I'm available. I may be able to go on other days as well, but it depends on the circumstances.
The UALR pool sessions sound interesting. I've never been in a whitewater boat or tried to roll, so I'd definitely like to try that out sometime.
