Paddle for the Cure (Oct 20, 2012)

Post by 74broncogirl » Thu Sep 20, 2012 10:18 pm

Well, it's that time again...it's time to gather our friends, share boats, and Paddle for the Cure...a non-Komen sanctioned event that occurs on the Arkansas River during the Race for the Cure in Little Rock.

This year's Paddle for the Cure will occur on Saturday, October 20, 2012.

I hope you will make plans to come out and paddle with us on the Arkansas River from Burns Park to the Broadway Bridge!

The 10th Annual Paddle for the Cure, a fun paddle for kayaks and canoes, will take place on Sat., Oct 20th. The PFTC group will launch at 7:00 AM from the Burns Park boat ramp in order to arrive at the Broadway Bridge at approx 8 AM as the runners start the Race For The Cure. Then we bob around under the bridges cheering on the runners above. Take-out is at the I-30 boat ramp (just down-stream) or paddle back... whew!

This Paddle for the Cure is a "rogue event", non-sanctioned by Susan G. Komen because we are on the water.

Please donate by registering as if you were participating in the Race for the Cure at http://www.komenarkansas.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, tape your number to your boat and wear your t-shirt, but paddle with us instead of walking or running!! Dress crazy, wear pink, paint your boat pink, espress yourself! This is for men and women who are experienced paddlers.

NOTE: Experienced paddlers only, at your own risk.
Bring your own boat and PFD! PFDs must be worn at all times!

Need volunteers to shuttle! See you on the Arkansas River!

What a cool idea! I am planning on joining y'all. My husband said he would be happy to shuttle. He can haul three other kayaks besides mine. One question: is this group registered as a team or do I register as an individual when I sign up on the Race for the Cure website?

Register as an individual. Get your number and tape it to your boat. It is a ton of fun!

Well, by this time tomorrow we should be wrapping up the Paddle for the Cure!

Just some reminders:

1. Put in is at Burns Park with start time of 0700.
2. Wear Pink, decorate your boat, wear a pink wig, bring noise makers, etc. the plan is to have a great time and cheer one those who are walking/running in the Race for the Cure.
3. Several people including Cowper and Doug Webber have offered to manage safety.
4. Take out is at the ramp on the NLR side of the river at the Arkansas Boat House. In years past, they have hosted us with a brunch. Haven't heard anything this year...but we can all go grab lunch afterwards I y'all are interested.
5. If you don't feel you can paddle from Burns Park to the take out, feel free to just meet the group around the Broadway Bridge.

Hope to see ya on the River!!!!
