"Dave Reid was evacuated from the Grand Canyon after a flip at Horn Creek today. From info I received, he has a broken femur, broken hip, and broken ribs.
Had surgery for broken leg. Needs a pin. They think his hip is okay. Definitely broken ribs, too. He's in Flagstaff.

Dave had surgery on his femur today.
His hip was fractured but not broken.
Details are sketchy at the moment but he is in good hands.
He is in no shape to take calls at this moment due to pain meds etc.,
Francine and daughter are there with him, he just needs prayers from the rest of us.

Just heard from Dave's daughter. Dave had an MRI today. He will have back surgery, probably Monday night. He is on morphine every 4 or so hours. Also has several broken ribs and is on oxygen. I'll try to find out more tomorrow.

Michelle, Dave's daughter, said that his back surgery will probably be Monday afternoon. He is very uncomfortable because of having to lie flat on his back. Not much change since yesterday. I did tell Michelle about all the posts on Dave's Facebook page. I also mentioned the message board. Francine has a laptop, so they will read them aloud to Dave. :)

I'm horrified to hear what happened. Dave is an excellent boater, and awesome guy, I hope the doctors get him patched up and back on the water soon. I'll keep an eye in this thread, for sure. Tell him everyone is pulling for him.

If you google it you can find multiple youtube videos. Wikipedia says: "Mile 90.2 - Horn Creek Rapid (7-9) - At lower water, forms very large waves and hydraulics and is one of the most difficult rapids in the canyon" which is probably as good a description as any involving twenty words or less.
I could guess at a few pieces of what might have happened, but the good news is Brother Dave is going to be able to give us the full details us in his own words soon enough, so I'm going to just reserve my comments now to wishing him the best possible recovery.
DAVE: Get Better Soon - We want to hear from you as soon as you feel up to it!
P.S. - I'm sure glad you're another one of those paddlers with nine lives! And of course, if there is anything we can do for you, just let us know!
