Powers' Point Paddling 9/11

Post by Dr. Steve Yaney » Mon Sep 10, 2012 7:44 am

The River Valley Chapter has completed the canoe access to the Arkansas River off of Clayton Expressway in Fort Smith, now known as Powers' Point. Much thanks to all that helped, especially Hannah Oil & Gas for donating work crew and heavy equipment as well as Arkhola Sand & Gravel for donating materials :yahoo: A few of us are going to paddle these calm backwaters on Tuesday Sep.11th (9/11). A calm peaceful paddle is an excellent way to remember the violence that took so many lives on 9/11/2001. Jason Gray has agreed to say a prayer for the victims and families as well as for PEACE. We invite all to join us at 6 PM. I will have the banner up for you to find the spot (it is 2.8 miles towards dowtown from Midland Ave.) however this is a non-ACC event, just a group of us Paddling for Peace! Come check it out!

Dont know for sure yet but debo and I are discussing. If we go, is anybody interested in sharing a ride from Conway area? Or for that matter, from morrilton or russellville?

Just confirming, is this the spot I'm trying to find?

http://goo.gl/maps/I1XB5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

aka N35.4354 W94.4107 ?

Looks to be a parking area near a bike/walking path that runs along the river?

That be it. Dang u r good!! We couldn't hide from u if we tried. From the parking area go straight over the bike trail and keep straight to water's edge. Healthy 400 feet portage from parking area. See ya down by the River!

Ah, so you WERE trying to be vague, so that only the cool in-town folks would come! :cry:

DeBo and I are stopping in Russellville to get more mesh bags from the Stream Team coordinator, in case anybody needs some for your stream-side church services.

Wish I would have read this post sooner,as I had to go to the Fort earlier today.Power's Point did'nt ring any bells (I thought of power point presentations)but I'm always happy to hear of a new access.
Thanks to all involved,Don :thumbup:

Wish you all could have been there! 12 of us gathered for a 9/11 prayer then 7 of us paddled on a gorgeous evening, what a sunset. Cowper schooled us on trash pickup and freeing turtles, he and Deb were rewarded with Papa's Pizza. Thanks to all!!!
