My girlfriend and I are looking for a couple of used whitewater level kayaks. Appreciate any offers or advice about reccomended makes or models. I am in Shreveport, she lives near Little Rock.
Thanks

It would help if you could give us a little info on you two. Height, shoe size, weight range? Nowadays, Whitewater Boats often come in several sizes per model, And it would help to know what Type you are interested in. Playboat?, River runner?, or Creek boat?
If your not sure just ask? there's lots of great advice and experience on here, with some of the friendliest people around!
River runners are typically "friendlier" as far as less likely to grab an edge and flip you. where the playboats are edgy'er
with less volume, and can be a tad bit harder to roll but minimal so don't let that sway your choice.
What Class of Rivers are you looking to do? Are you New to this?
Let us know a little more and you will probably get more answers than you want!
and Welcome..... and Warning.... this may be far more fun than you expected. and you will most likely turn into a whitewater junkie craving more and more.

Thanks RR,
We would put ourselves in the intermediate class. I have used kayaks in the ocean in Mexico. I have spent a lot of time in canoes. We are definitely looking at river runners. I am 6 ft. My gal IS 5.9 THANKS AGAIN!!!

Mere words cannot describe the kind of addiction that comes with the territory.
Crack-heads are just below boaters on the scale.

Graybeard,
Check out the boats on this forum- you'll have some great options right off the bat, depending on how much you want to spend. For reference, use the website eddyflower (i.e. google "perception full tilt eddy flower"- insert whatever boat make and model you find, I just used the full tilt as an example). It's a GREAT resources, and will allow you to compare boats that were made 20 years ago with the newer models as well.
Do yourself a favor and go to the Ark-La-Tex chapter meeting- first wed. of every month at 6 o'clock at the Real Pickle. They'll be the crew sitting in paddle t-shirts, drinking beer, and laughing at Harlan. They'll be able to help steer you in the right direction as far as boats go, but more importantly they can be your driving buddies to Arkansas (which saves quite a bit on gas).
Finally, give my regards to the Port Nasty.

Also, be sure you come to Rendezvous. There will be gear swappin' and lie tellin' and multiple opportunities to pick paddlers' brains (shouldn't take long

) and demo boats. I'm sure some there will be some Ark-La-Texans coming.
You come too.

Well, Friday morning my girlfriend and I are going to check out a couple of Old Town 10-Feet 6-Inch Dirigo 106 Recreational Kayaks. If it works out, we will load them up and head for the buffalo. I plan to make the meeting tonight at the pickle.
I'll take Amtrak tomorrow to Little Rock. thanks for your valuable input.
Robert
