Little Mo Trip Report - Mandy's First Combat Roll!

Post by Cowper » Fri Aug 03, 2012 10:23 am

This has already been around on Facebook, but I thought it was worthy of mention here, too: Yesterday on our Little Mo trip Mandy Sig…. got her first “for real” Combat Roll!!! Yes, after charging a surfing wave like a pro, she swam on a first surf attempt, but was soon back in her boat trying again. The next time she flipped – she tried to roll – and missed – and tried again – and missed – and tried again – AND MADE IT!!!

I know the parents are naturally proud, but I felt good too because at pool sessions we had been drilling her on the correct answer to the question, “What do you do if you try to roll and it doesn’t work?” (Ans: Try Again!)

Oh yeah, by the way, the cool water was also good, the surfing was good, reconnecting with old friends was good, the impromptu rescue practice at the take out was good, and the Mexican food was good. And Woody and Bryan did some great surfing too, but who cares, they’re guys. :poke:
Trash: Get a little every time you go!

Thanks Coop (Cowp?)! Mandy went to sleep with a full belly of Mexican and dreams of more ww. She enjoyed telling mom about her achievement when we arrived home. Thanks again for your tutoring at the pool and on the river.

Good Trip Report, and congradulations to Mandy! That's such a delightful section on a hot day, I thought of you all several times yesterday.

Best Regards
Jim

Mandy I said it on the trip and I'll say here I have seen people who have taken classes and paddled for years not do as good as you did yesterday on the Little Missouri. Great day, great group great fun. I'm going back today for a second helping. BOB

Great job Mandy  . Wish I had gone afterall so I could have witnessed your combat roll. You certainly have done well in a short time. Took me long time to get a roll at all and I still have never tried a combat roll YET!

Nice meeting you the other night. Hope to paddle with you sometime.

And remember if your near low over hanging trees... Make sure that guy in the purple canoe, who shall remain nameless, is no where near you. Hahaha. He is an open-boater, with aggressive tendencies towards us kayakers!!!

Get it right the canoe is blue its the air bags that are purple. Oops I guess I'm no longer unnamed. And some of my best friends are kayakers. BOB
