SurfnTurf 2012 will be Saturday, July 28 at the Porterfields (Paradise says Malvern City Hall) at Rockport. That's river right or surfers' left , at the upper ledge. We supply burgers, dogs, buns, and accompanyments, you supply sides, deserts, etc.
As in the past, there are no "official" trips or events sponsored by the club, but informal, member-led downriver trips seem to get organized on their own. Reply to this thread if you want to get a group together.
We will plan on having lunch ready about 11:30a.m. for those who want to get their feed on before the water shows up.
Jeremy has a Throwdown scheduled for that afternoon which is always big fun.
Bring your favorite side and a cooler of your favorite hot-weather drinks, a chair, and all your peeps.
See ya there!

I don't think we know yet. In years with more water, Entergy (Ted) usually works with us to start the release somewhat earlier than on a normal weekend. With the dry weather, I don't know if he is going to be able to do that this time or not, but look for an update when we find out what the story is going to be...

In years past OOO has held an "informal" get together at the shop after Surf and Turf. Unfortunately we will NOT be hosting that event this year. We will still have demos and the sound system down at Rockport during the event and will be hanging out. If anyone has a truck available to pull it, the ramp is available...

Can't wait for the weekend!!

Does the ROD require a one ton to pull it?

Several items of business:

1) RELEASE TIMES:
Due to this: http://www.plantmaps.com/interactive-ar ... ns-map.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Entergy is only going to be able to swing the 3 hour release. Reader's Digest version for those not inclined to follow links is that the entire watershed area is in drought, ranging from "severe" to "extreme".

Downstream Floaters:
Release starts at Remmel Dam at NOON, runs until 3 PM. (Noon launch is recommended)

"Park and Play" folks:
Water will start rising at the ledge at about 2:15; optimum play window will be from about 2:30 until 4:30, somewhat longer for those that still enjoy playing even as the levels fall.

2) Prior Surf and Turf Video:
All I can say is that it is a good thing most of us can paddle better than we can dance!

3) HOMEMADE BOAT RACE:
Jeremy has promised to have a "rematch" on the homemade boat race. Based on the last one, I'd say that if your boat makes it to the finish line, you should be among the top finishers! This is mostly intended to be a fun youth event, but that won't stop any of us from participating... (my boat will be constructed mostly from things pulled out of rivers or roadside dumps...)

The Ramp of Death is coming!

Written permission to park on the boat ramp for the day is being secured; the only condition is that we must leave a truck hooked to the ramp so that if an emergency occurs that requires officials of any government agency to use the ramp, we will be able to quickly move it to allow the required access.

We have a "back up" plan to get the ramp there, but if someone can volunteer a truck it might simplify the logistics, so don't be afraid to step up and be the hero!

Being new around here I have to ask, what exactly is this " ramp of death" of which you speak?
