Lower Caddo Video (5 July 2012)

Post by erikpolta » Fri Jul 06, 2012 6:23 pm

Thanks to the info from CAPT ALEVE and others on this forum, my family and I decided to hit the lower Caddo the other day.
Apart from the trash (which I can only assume is being left by careless patrons of the rafting outfitter by the Hwy 67 Bridge) it was a nice float. My wife and I spoke to the owner of the Hwy 67 float service and he seemed genuinely concerned about the trash - and even offered a free shuttle to my family if we wanted to "volunteer" our time to do a cleanup float. I see that as a definite "next float opportunity"
Here is a link to the video
thanks!

Erik,

I'm glad to see your post, and very glad you and your family got out on the Caddo. I've lived in the Arkadelphia area for many years and have made lots of trips on that section. The lower Caddo is a great place to start out taking kids and the Upper Caddo (above Lake DeGray) offers longer sections and real nice mountain scenery. However the upper river is rain dependent offering the best floating in the Spring and very early Summer.
Did you all float in canoes, kayaks, or tubes? I'm sorry about the trash situation, it's only grown more every year with the increased popularity of this section. I'm really pleased the new float service there at Hwy 67 made the offer he did!
My friend Rick Brumley ran the float service across the road for about twenty five years and was very dedicated to keeping the area and the river as clean as possible but many patrons (and others) have been and continue to be careless and unthoughtful. I think we find that everywhere unfortunately. As a side note, it's been my observation on the Lower Caddo that more than 3/4 of the people on the river are private boaters/floaters, rather than rentals. Still makes no difference on the trash situation, folks really need to take a lot more pride.
Let us know how future trips go, it's a fun stretch and the fishing is also pretty good when there are fewer folks out, either earlier on the weekends or during the week.

Best Regards
Jim

TRT needs info on who this company is, that will provide free shuttle for a clean-up run.

Thanks for sharing the video. Looks like you had a nice day with your family, but most days on the water are nice days.

Thanks for picking up the trash, from another trash picker upper.

Nice video!

Thanks for your stewardship ethic also

Scoring a free shuttle in trade for volunteer river cleanup duty speaks to the stewardship of the outfitter which Is great to read about.
