Had a friend who had one get one of his 4-H lambs. Biologist made a plaster cast of track and it was confirmed to be a panther but, they (AGFC)claimed it was transient since he lives so close to the LA line. The past several years they have been denying that are ay in AR.

BTW welcome back. How was the trip?

I read somewhere (may have been here) that AGFC has known about them for years but doesn't want to acknowledge their presence because doing so would require an additional allocation of resources and open a can o' worms. Another gubmint spiracy????????????

Had an employee of the AG&FC tell me that in person.

Ditto on what Deuce and Ar-Nimrod said about the G&F line.
For the 35 years I have lived on my farm at Joan (near Arkadelphia)
I had heard reports of them from my neighbors. My place sits on the edge of the Leau Frais Creek watershed, coverings thousands of acres of (at the time) dense hardwood bottom lands. Back in the early eighties, one of my older neighbors also made a plaster cast of one. Finally, in the early nineties, I heard one in the back of a pasture as I left a friends house late one evening. Then a year or so later, I heard one screaming down in the woods behind my place, what a thrill!

Best Regards
Jim

You know, that gives me pause Jim. My MIL lives just north of Searcy in a subdivision called Panther Creek. She's a good MIL but a little daffy. For years she's been saying she's heard panthers screaming despite my insistence that there ain't no panthers in Arkie, to which she responds "then why is it called Panther Creek?", to which I respond "don't know, but I live on Seminole in Indian Hills and I haven't seen Osceola in years." She's a good sport about it. Any way, I wonder if she's been hearing one of our intrepid mountain lions. BTW, will there be any Kreugers at Rockport tomorrow?

last line of the article..."We believe public awareness campaigns and conservation strategies are required across these states," LaRue said.

That is what I have understood the AGFC does not want... tons of $$$. Can't say I blame them.

Luke,

I've been playing shuttle bunny for the last month, taking friends up to the dam. I haven't floated any myself, waiting for knee surgery. Well, I had my surgery on Wed. and as much as I want to at least come down there and sit in the shade, I don't know that I'll make it. Marlo may feel like it, and I figure other friends we float with will be there. I hope to be back in action in about 3 weeks.

Best Regards
jim

Looks like it's bear mace for the buffalo trips if populations keep growing.

I'd love to see one but, I'd hade to deal with one!

I saw a cougar in Louisiana once in the Atchafalaya Basin, quite a surprise. The La. Wildlife & Fisheries biologist called it a Louisiana Mountain Lion. He was sitting on the right edge in tall grass, on our seldom used camp 4x4 woods road. About the time I said big bobcat, in one leap he was across the road and and gone. Me and my buddy both, saw that long tail and together said "Cougar". :o

Modify habitat for elk, but deny the puma exist.....

Bringback bears, but deny puma.

Kind of funny, really.

You can still hear one of them domesticated escapee pumas north of Clarksville every now and then.
