158 disco upgrade advice

I love this boat, but...... I want something a bit more aggressive. Tandem, camping trips, ( saddles I'm not overly excited about). Went to canoe school several years ago in a borrowed solo Mohawk XL15 enjoyed it very much. lot of fun for playing. Ankle issues in saddle not so much. Want a boat with bit more play than the sled I have and still have some haulage. 6'2" 240. Suggestions? Go!!!

Luke and Al, I was reading up on that boat earlier even saw your exhaustive review on another board Al. I like it's a local company too. I'll have to take a trip north for test stroke I suppose. Thanks.

I like the Arkota as well, but I have 2 16'Mad River Explorers only because I lucked out having friends who shipped one to me off of Craiglist in Iowa that I got at a steal of a price and then someone else gave me hull to restore. If you come up to try the Arkota, I will let you try a Mad River Explorer as a comparison on Beaver Lake at the same time if you let me know far enough in advance. You could take it over to Lewis Shaw's house with my trailer along with a kayak I am loaning him, and then bring the canoe and trailer back on your way home. I live on Beaver Lake about 15 miles south of Lewisand can give you more detailed directions if you are interested. I'm about 10 miles off of I-540 in Rogers,Ar on HW94Spur. Before you ask, neither Explorer is for sale.

Matt Martin in Bella Vista is another satisfied Arkota purchaser .

I do have a 17' Mad River Northwoods in Green Royalex, with wood gunnels, foam knee pads, Kevlar felt skid plates, but I doubt that it would be what you wanted. It is an asymetric shallow "V" hull designed for the 17' cruising class. While it is a very fast canoe, it is not a great solo boat, turns slower, and is a wetter ride than an Explorer. Selling because my tandem partner and her dog like the dryer ride of the Explorer. You could easily do 30 miles a day in the Northwoods without paddling hard all day.
