I just finished two days in the New River gorge in the southern part of WV . it's not far from the Gaully river . If you've never been or never heard of it ( like I hadn't ) it's some really great scenery and a great place to hang out for a few days . Class II - IV water but I stayed away from the class IV . I even had a couple of nice relaxing swims in the class III

. The bridge over the gorge is the longest arch bridge in the U.S. and there's a couple of nice places on top at the rim of the gorge for REFRESHMENTS . If you are ever doing the Gaully it's definatly worth stopping by .

The NEW in WV is big water fun.
My house just about overlooked the river when I lived in Beaver WV. That was before I paddled. On several return trips I got to paddle sections.

Beautiful place...but we only did the upper during Gauleyfest last year which made me want beer and a fishing pole
Going to do the lower section this year if I make it to the fest
How does the lower gorge compare to the lower Gauley?

more pools, mostly less technical(there is always that exception), and a couple or 3 bigger rapids, depending on the level. dale

Thanks Dale...I didn't find the lower Gauley very technical...just big water compared to Missouri and Arkansas creeks. Still a great time though. We would have done the lower but we didn't have a guide...
