Hi everyone:
I have been paddle for 2years now and need some new challenges. I have run upper piney a few times ,north fork, run the fallwater falls a few times ,and a few other class 2-3 creeks. I wont to run Richland and Hurricane creek but I need some help when to put-in and take-out. And whats some go levels for me never been on them. I live down on falling water so im pretty familiar with the area. And also would like to go with somebody next time you run it.
Thanks Nathan

I would think since you live in the area that lower Richland at around 4-5ft and Hurricane would def be good step up runs for you. If you did those and didnt feel all that challenged I would head on up the creek to upper Richland.

There is a thread on favorite levels (and why) to run Upper Richland just below your post. Might be interesting for you to read.

Fish's OWP has all the gauges for Arkansas streams:
http://www.ozarkpages.com/cgi-bin/stages.pl?ST=level" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Click on the stream name for information on each creek including put-ins and take-outs.

Check out Falling Water Cr. too. It's a good stepping stone to Upper Richland, about like Hurricane or Lower R.

For Falling Water, you can put in at the falls and take out either at the low water bridge or Richland Creek Campground.

You can just drive on the road and look at Falling Water. If it looks like you'd like to run the rapids, it's probably at a good level. Falling Water Falls is the traditional put-in, but you can put in almost anywhere along the creek.
Also, you may want to look at Spirits Cr. and Hailstone Cr. which are right in that class 2-3 range. Hailstone is a bit more committing, being a 14 mile wilderness run, so use a bit more caution there.

Of course you can just drive down to the Richland campground bridge and check the level since you're soooooo close! You can do lower Richland down to around 3ft (I've done it down to 2.5 which I don't recommend) but it gets bony below that and it is about nine miles. 3-4 hours depending on how fast you power through the flats. The first few miles have some decent drops but there is a lot of flat water towards the bottom. The take-out for the lower is reached by going north from the Richland campground bridge and taking the first right you come to (Richland Road-but the sign is down) and drive until you find a fork in the road with a road on the right that goes right down to the creek.
I wouldn't skip the lower part of Falling water...there are some good drops down there that are very similar to some upper Richland drops and you will also miss Six Finger Falls.
Hurricane is fun but there's no gauge...
Try it like this sometime
