SATURDAY & SUNDAY, 03/10-11/12: NEW CREEKS, CLASS I AND II+
Possible first descents may happen this weekend:
A: Class I-II; 6 miles long; 12 feet per mile; not scouted so there may be
portages around fallen trees; limited scenic value; Perryville area; no
photos available for this moderately small creek; suitable for open boat.
B: Class II+; 2 miles long; 78 feet per mile; fully scouted and hazard-free;
narrow and flume-like with quick maneuvering required; shallow with
narrow passages through brush (similar to Thompson Creek); strong
possibility this will be a first descent; Glenwood area. Probably not
suitable for open boats due to tightness. Photos at
http://sports.webshots.com/album/582227587TxnNkI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
C: Class II+; 5 miles long; 37 feet per mile; fully scouted and hazard-free;
many small falls and much surfing potential on this fair-sized creek; first
two miles narrow but clean; fast paced throughout; good scenery;
Glenwood area; Probably suitable for open boats. Photos at
http://sports.webshots.com/album/582339133yRUGYx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I will be watching the radar to determine if enough rain falls in the right places. Let me know if you want to get in on any of these. Full data will be published after the first(?) descent.

Re: SATURDAY & SUNDAY, 03/10-11/12: NEW CREEKS, CLASS I AND
Robert, you proved me wrong about open boats and tight creeks when you took your 14' Mohawk down Little Wild Goose Creek many years ago, so maybe my assessment of creek B above is also in error. I don't think the penalty for missing a quick turn into a narrow chute will be that bad since the brush strainer you will end up in will have a water depth less than knee deep. I believe you could extricate yourself easily if you don't flop over with the open side upstream. In most places the creek will be too shallow to allow a kayak to fully turn over; that's both a plus and a minus (elbow pads highly recommended).
Creek C is mostly straight shots with only moderate steering effort required and that's only for the first half mile or so. It opens up and has plenty of room after that.
Creek A will probably be a lot like Little Bull Creek that we paddled with Chester and Sarah, also quite a few years ago.

I just put new batteries in the helmet cam; need some willing subjects. Might be going Friday afternoon; see other post.

The II+ creeks did not get enough rain; the I-II creek is probably good to go. I'll check back later and see if there is any interest.
