kudos to frying squirell

Post by mohawklady » Thu Feb 23, 2012 12:48 pm

I know I will probably embarass jon by posting this, but as a parent we do not give credit many times when credit is do so it it is: Thursday(today) at about 11 am he was at my house in Jacksonville working on my truck, we were both underneath it finishing up the drive shaft when we smelled smoke. We immediately thought it was a structure fire as smoke was coming from the apartments across the street. We both ran to the front yard, he more quickly that me, and saw smoke pouring from a vent on top of on of the units. He is a quick thinker before he even crossed the street he was calling 911, then called the apartment manager, and then started to pound on all the doors to notify people of the fire, I would of not thought of that that quickly. as it turned out that a a man in the unitnext to the one that was on fire that was asleep, he had workad a ten hour shift and was just asleep for a hour. I honestly believe that do to Jonathans quick thinking he saved that mans life. way to go frying squirrell I am so very proud of you. there will probably be some pictures is Jacksonvilles leader and a interview in saturdays paper. Way to go Jon and you too Pam. They are lucky that y'all were outside working on the truck. Most folks today do not seem to notice things like smoke where it should not be. If it was as windy down there as it has been up here, a fire could have spread very fast, much faster than normal, making speed of response that much more critical. We are under a Red Flag warning up here because of the winds. Good that Jon had a reliable phone and knew to use it. I know the person he woke up is glad Jon was there. Sorry to hear you are having vehicle problems again. I know you appreciate having Jon's skill as a mechanic and as a loving son. Go ahead and embarass him. Mother's priviledge.

Heres some pics I snapped of the fire getting put out. All I had was my phone camera, so they aren't the highest quality. The story should publish in tomorrow's edition of the Jacksonville Leader. I'm not sure of the extent to which I saved anyone's bacon, I just did what any quick thinker would have done in the circumstances. Didn't even have to think about it, just took action.
