I was asked to give a quick tech talk at the River Valley meeting tomorrow at La Huerta about how to setup the Google Earth rain estimate / stream overlay. I made a webpage with detailed instructions on how to do it, including the files, and thought I would share it with everyone. I've been using it for a while now, and it has really saved me some fuel because I know just where the rains have fallen.
Here is the link: http://sites.google.com/site/robpollan2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Maybe we could come up with a better name than Google Earth rain estimate / stream overlay? Maybe Fishdar?
Thanks to Fish for making this and sharing it with us all!

Re: Google Earth Rain Estimate Instructions
iyak, you bringing a projector tonight? patch cables, etc.?
Steve asked me to demo some gps goodies. Have some fun stuff to share but no projector. May just bring the laptop and show anyone that's interested.
Presentation is more suited for a meeting at the library but will be prepared tonight for whatever works!

Re: Google Earth Rain Estimate Instructions
Much as I like the sound of "Fishdar", I can't take the credit for this one. I had the seed of the idea, but about half a dozen ACC'ers put in some serious hours outlining creeks and watersheds to create that data. It was definitely a group effort, and the data is provided to the public by the ACC.
I've been working on a web version of it for about three years too, one that runs in Google Maps on your smartphone, etc. However, I keep getting distracted. Maybe if someone promised to reward me with a free catfish dinner and the raffle boat at Canoe School this year, it would motivate me to get it done by then...
