Hi Folks, we just had someone drop out of the course and would love to find a replacement! let me know if you are interested.
We will be offering the Instructors Developement Workshop (IDW) in Mulberry Arkansas April 28-29 2012 using the Mulberry River as our training site.
There is great camping at the location, as well as indoor space should our weather not be as nice as it usually is that time of year.
The Instructors Certification Exam (ICE) will be hosted in Birmingham Alabama May 26-28 2012 using whichever nearby river offers the best opportunities at the time, based on water levels. There will be numerous opportunities for carpooling and cost sharing for the Alabama portion.
The reason for going there is twofold, first there is a guarantee of water appropriate for the certification process, second, my mentoring ITE Gordon Black has folks out there who want to go through the process as well. This will allow for them to come to us for the first half, and for us to go to them for the second portion. This solves problems that we have encountered numerous times in the past.
Just to give a quick description, the IDW is two days of learning the ACA instructional program, how it works and how to incorporate the methodology into your style of teaching. If you already hold certification through the ACA and are interested in upgrading it is possible to attend just the ICE portion and challenge the test, but if you have never done an ACA IDW then you would need to do both portions.
The ICE will be three days of skill demonstration and teaching assessment which can result in up to an ACA L4 Whitewater Kayak instructors certification.
The cost is less than most, it will be 450.00 total for the IDW/ICE. But... if you are a current member of the ACC, our instructors fund will be subsidizing a good portion of your cost!
If this is program something that you want to pursue, please reply to SwiftwaterRescue@gmail.com and we can begin the registration process. Space in the course is limited, and right now there are more people interested that available slots. That said, the sooner we hear from you the better!
I would encourage you to go to the ACA website http://www.americancanoe.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and look through the requirements for instructors and familiarize yourself with the course outlines. This information can be found in the Education and Instruction section. Take some time to review the resources there, as most questions you might have about the certification process are answered there in their most up-to-date form.
