I have seen some good cleaning results from some older royalex boats, using (oddly enough) just windex and a 3M dish scrubbing pad. Some of the older formulations of Royalex exuded a dark, sticky layer when left out in the weather for years. It looks almost like a coating of sap, but will come off with the above treatment. The surface probably will not become shiny, but it'll no longer resemble an old tarred road surface.

If yours has some other condition, this likely will not do as well.

The treatment also seems to work on the mildewed insides of "bottom up stored" canoes.

Multiple coats of DuPont 303 recommended, allow a few hours between complete coats and follow instructions.

I just used 2 bottles of 303 on it. It looks good but looks like it is drying up and back to the powerey dull color.

There are a few places where the green is showing through. It a red boat is that something I need to be worried about?

I also would recommend , and have used Al's sugestion of the scrubbing pad, and Eric's recommendation of the 303 protectorant after the boat is clean and dry. If the boat is dry and dull-looking, I'd try more 303 and let it stay overnight before lightly rubbing it with a dry cloth. I have some boats over twenty years old and after the 303 treatment, they may still have scratches, but are never dull. If you have a red canoe and there are places where there is green or light yellow showing through, I can only figure the top lamination is worn through in certain areas. If you can post some pictures I'll bet folks more savvy than me can offer a better diagnosis, and possible suggestions.

We have an old BOC 17'. Still faded light blue, still rocks for Buffalo trips. i'd say give up on making it shiny and keep it covered from now on.
You can buy a lot of beer for what 303 costs.
