NEW TAKE-OUT ON CADDO RIVER JUST ABOVE LAKE DEGRAY

The Class I section of the Caddo from Highway 182 just north of Amity to Highway 84 just east of Amity (sometimes called the Amity to Amity section) can be extended three quarters of a mile by using an alternate take-out. The extra length is well worth paddling since you get to go through several more rapids, pick up some nice scenery, and avoid the somewhat difficult take-out under the Highway 84 bridge. Full details are found under the "Caddo River 2" tab at

Hey Mike,
This access information is certainly good! I know right where that real estate sign is and will check out the access next time I'm over that way. I see Barksdale Family LLC on the bottom of the sign, I called on Barksdale Lumber Co. in Amity on my welding supply sales route for ten years in the 70s and 80s.
Long time Amity folks.
The real estate sign has been in place for several years without any sign of housing development. My only concern for a long term access will be at some point when the parcels do sell. This is certainly welcome news for now but I would still advocate one more nice G&F access on the Caddo, in this area.
Mike, this is a nice web-site, is it by yourself or someone else? Thanks for posting!!
Best Regards
Jim aka Caddo Boy, Jim Moose, etc

Yes, Jim, I am building the website and hoping it will serve as a tool to bring paddlers together to enjoy moderate whitewater. Hope we get to paddle together soon.

Kayark,
There is indeed a nice ramp at Hwy 346, (this is the Old Runyon Bridge ramp)
Clark County recently spent money and effort to fix the parking lot up pretty nice. There is also another ramp just across the river/lake and just 1/4 mile downstream (this is Amity Landing)
I really like this section between Hwy 84 and the lake, and have paddled/fished it many times, but usually treat it as a seperate float from the Hwy 182-Hwy 84 float because of the combined distance. When the White Bass start running in March, this lowest section is just great!
Best Regards
Jim
