Buffalo float starting january 31 POSTPONED

Post by wally » Wed Jan 25, 2012 1:28 pm

It looks like conditions are coming into alignment with weather and water levels and i will be starting Jnuary 31 as far up as possible for a 2,3 or 4 day trip. willing to bar camp or car camp and shuttle sections. will be fishing so 5 to 6 miles a day is max. glad to have company.

rain forecasts and wind don't look so good now. maybe later on.

Hey Wally,

It's so nice to see your post! I most probably can't join in on this trip, but I've so enjoyed our many past floating and fishing trips on the Buffalo, Ouachita, Caddo, and elsewhere! I especially enjoyed our fishing trip from Erbie to Ozark several years ago. I hope all is well and will monitor the weather and water conditions as your trip draws closer :D I wish I was computer-savvy enough to post some of the photographs from our Caddo and Buffalo trips...

Best Regards
Jim

Jim, thank you for the kind words. I do so wish you and marlo could make this. it's been too long since we did anything like this. i am counting on the weather forecast being close to accurate which may be a stretch but we'll keep watching.
best regards,

I think the probability of my joining you is about 60%. There are a few things I need to take care of first but chances appear to be good. I have a rarely used fishing license and gear. It would be neat if Painter Bob and others with weekday flexibility could join us.

I'm looking at a Monday morning thru Tuesday afternoon overnighter, possibly extended into Wed. if the weather and my ability to stay reasonably comfortable (read pain mgmt.) hold out. Haven't decided between my 12' Tarpon or the ol' buffalo canoe. But if I go I'll post my number and itinerary and would be more than happy to help each other shuttle, etc. Not sure if I'm gonna take it slow and short, or cover lots of territory yet. I know mid river the level is such 6 miles would go by in about an hour and a half!

I was planning on a solo experience, with lots of fishing and picture taking and time to reflect. But I have nothing against good company if it works out we're on the same stretch. Just don't wanna bring any of my usual rowdy bunch.

Will post back later with details. :kayak:

danny boy,
i can't make it monday but plan to be in the jasper area early tuesday morning and plan on slow fishing relaxing. let me know your plans and perhaps we can hook up for shuttle. water flow should be around 200 cfs on the upper river by tuesday which is ideal.

I caught a doosy of a cold. Not sure how soon or if I will be able to join you. Will you be at Ozark all week?

richard, it depends. if i go by myself, i will have mike shuttle and i will camp along the river. if someone else wants to go, we could set up camp at ozark and shuttle. weather and river are really starting to line up nicely. take some alka seltzer plus and come on.
