Saline River, saturday UPDATE - Cadron Creek at 11

Post by we66erno1 » Fri Jan 06, 2012 6:25 pm

Does anyone want to paddle down the saline river tomorrow? Or is there anyone interested in helping me with a shuttle?

UPDATE: How about Cadron, Hwy 65 Bridge at 11?

The Saline River in Central Ark. (near Benton), or the one in Western Ark?I
I'm unable to float anywhere tomorrow but thought I'd suggest it may be helpful if you mentioned which stream you had in mind, and perhaps any specific section you were interested in.

Best Regards

Interested, but thinking I'm going after some larger trash items on Cadron that caught my attention on a previous trip.

With Cadron already getting to lower levels, do you think there will still be enough in a tributary like Cove? Or in other words, how high does Cadron need to be for Cove to be decent?

I was at Cove Creek Natural Area today and I looked at a few of the pools/rapids/riffles. I think it is low but floatable. It's a beautiful little stretch. I've only paddled in once when the Cadron at Guy was at ~5ft.

Well, didn't see this in time. Anyway the Cadron needs to be about 3' for a float down the Cove best I remember.

best part of cove creek is from rabbit ridge (at the confluence of pine mt. creek and hogan creek witch is the start of cove cr.) to martinville or if u want a shorter float u can stop by the boy scouts just east of rabbit ridge and talk to TJ Jones for permission to use his take out half way down.he runs the boyscout ranch there is a super nice guy.he told me any time i wanted to takeout or put in there would be fine just need to contact him.by the way hogan cr. is a jewel that doesn't get paddled much.there are also some nice play waves at the confluence i spoke of above.

Trip Report: By the end of the day, even Barking Dog rapid was not a "gimme"

Image

(somewhere between 11 and 13 tires or partial tires, if I count the two on the bicycle, two road signs, and a bag or two of miscellaneous trash)

Big thanks to Doug for suggesting the trip, and for helping with multiple tire extractions!

That's quite a load of trash. It's unfortunate that if you went back again tomorrow you might bring back just as big of a load. How was the water level overall?

As Wes said, thanks for all you do Cowper. Funny pic of all the stuff and saying "where's Waldo?". It is sad though that you do all this cleanup and people still continue to dump stuff. Oh, that bicycle looks like it might be salvageable. Oh, and Cowper, I saw your other albums, esp. one named "the nose" :eh: on your weshots page. Found a way to post it elsewhere. I wanted to keep it to remind me of what happened so I will remember to tuck more quickly next time I flip my :kayak: .

2.4 on the gage. A lot of the normal play waves were either gone or very small, but then again there was really no dragging so it was still a good float. This turned out to be the perfect level for a clean-up since so much was exposed, but the loaded boat could still float over the shoals.

If we'd had a raft or several more canoes, we could have gotten the small slot machine, metal chair, and several more tires that we had to leave behind.

Well, I am down for a clean-up run on the Cadron or Cove Creek tomorrow if anyone is interested.
