When is the 2012 School of Recreational Paddling?

Has it been decided when the 2012 School of Recreational Paddling will be held? I'm hoping to attend this year but will need to submit vacation requests in the not too distant future.

If a date hasn't been set, when is it usually announced? Is it always the first weekend of June or some other "formula"?

Thanks.

Whitewater school is always the first weekend that ends in May. This year it's May 4, 5, & 6. I don't know when Rec. schools is.

According to info recently given to us, the May 4-6th dates are the Whitewater school dates, not the Rec. school dates. . . . :? Hopefully someone can provide dates for Rec. school.. .Liz??

Last year Rec school was on the 3-5. Think it is usually about a month apart.

Thanks for the assistance. I went to the whitewater school several years ago. Lots of nice people and great instruction. The primary thing I learned was that I prefer recreational paddling.

I'll keep an eye out for the announcement of the rec school schedule.

Meant to say it was June 3-5 last year. Whitewater school is month earlier.
So it will probably be close to the date in June.

This is not confirmed, but looks right now like Rec School will take place on the Spring River on Fri. June 1 - Sun. June 3.

Will post for sure within a week or so.

Sure hope it's the next week! I have a 5 day Buffalo trip planned for that weekend! Will also have to miss white water school in May as I will be on a 14 day Colorado float through Grand Canyon. Oh woe is me!!!

Phil:

You'll just have to make up for missing these by paddling with me again back at Eminence April 20 - 24 on the Jacks Fork, Eleven Point, & Current. Those dates are firm and I'll try to formally post them soon.

I agree that the following weekend would be better. I already have a commitment on that date as well. Bummer.

louis,
I will be looking forward to a return trip to Eminance! It was one of the best trips I've been on! Think I'll spring for a cabin this time.
I've joined the BCOS and hope to make the meeting this Tuesday. Maybe I'll see you there.

Is this event usually beginner friendly? We paddling various sections of the Buffalo in May and sometimes in September (weather and water levels cooperating) between Ponca and Rush (sit on top kayaks). Most of us have been paddling 4+ years.

WPC,

Yes, the course is definately beginner-friendly. Considering the floating you've done already, you'll probably be very pleased to come away from the course with new skills and even a better enjoyment of boating in the future.
It's such a fun weekend! If you scroll back on the board to just after last years class, I'll bet some of the students and instructors have some pictures posted at the time. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Best Regards
Jim
