Cadron Tues or Wed?
If the Cadron is about 4-5 feet I'd like to hit the Cadron either Tues 12/27 or 12/28...give a shout if anyone else might be interested.
Cheers,
Heather

Tomorrow or Wednesday. Either or both.

I'm thinking Wed.
It looks to be cresting about now, but I think it'll be rather washed out still today...tomorrow should be a mo' fun level.

Re: Cadron Tues or Wed?
A couple of us are planning to meet at 12:30 under the Hwy 65 bridge on Wed 12/28. The water will still be on the high side, but hopefully there will be a couple sweet surfing spots. Planning to put in about 7.5 miles upstream on private property with permission. See ya there!

Good trip, Lupe, and a lot more surfing potential at this level than I would have guessed.
Highlight of the trip was probably when the group returned the wayward kayak and two paddles to the guys who lost them during yesterday's peak flows. Now those were two happy guys!

Great trip and thanks all around!
To JasonK? for the loan of a PFD.
To Heather for showing us down.
To Chris for giving pointers on eddying and ferrying.
To Mitch for helping haul not only my 250# carcass out of the water, but my boat as well.
And to everyone for at least laughing under their breath at my swim!
Cheers!

Did Daddy's Knee kick you outta your boat, Jason?

Unfortunately, the price of gas combined with having a sick wife conspired to keep me in NWA yesterday. Didn't make it.
Maybe next time!

Re: Cadron Tues or Wed?
Jason (YarTheBug) - that was Bob Tyler who had the extra PFD. Not sure he posts on the board much. And I ain't going to laugh at anyone who hangs in there as long as you did going after your roll and then swims in that icy water. I was worried you were going to turn into an icicle, but you clearly have a different metabolism than I do!
JasonK - sorry you didn't make it but that would have been a l-o-n-g drive. Now if you could get some folks to carpool with you, tomorrow when the level should be about 4 feet and temps in the 60's...well, that might be worth the drive!
Chris K was the one who spotted the mostly submerged kayak and managed to wrestle it free with some help from Mitch. Cowper managed to find both missing kayak paddles, including the one with black blades before we even told him we were on the look out! Bob (who paddles an open boat) said he earned himself a kayak merit badge yesterday because he was the one who clipped a rope to the recovered yak and lead it down the rest of the river like a stubborn mule (the kayak, not Bob). (no easy task!).
Oh, and although no one mentioned it, I'll "tell" on myself: I flipped surfing and had my first combat roll in 1 and half years (since my shoulder injury). Was a bit unexpected and a nice shock of cold water on the head, but was good to pull off a nice roll (even if I shouldn't have flipped in the first place!)
Nice group of paddlers...was really nice to see and paddle with everyone. It sure is nice to be back on the water again!

Re: Cadron Tues or Wed?
Hazard update:
Wanted to add for those planning to hit the Cadron over next several days:
If you put in upstream of the old Cadron Creek Outfitters, there is a river wide metal cable in the water just downstream of "Sarah's Wave" at the old CCO campground. The current is not super fast there, but the cable is hard to see. Be on the look out and be ready to paddle far right or far left to avoid the cable which is low in the middle.
There is still a strainer in the far river right channel just past "Blow Out Bluff" (the bluff that looks like a stack of rock has fallen over). Just past that stack of rocks, the main river channel sweeps around to the right and the curve is blind from above. There is a tree down in that channel. With good boat control it can be avoided, but if you have folks in your group that might have trouble negotiating that bend, it would be safer to go straight rather than following the right hand chute. (Going straight you'll pick a route through some brush and riff raff, but there are clear routes that you can see all the way clear to the bottom of the rapid).
Be safe!
cheers

Re: Cadron Tues or Wed?
@Lupe: Thank you for the clarification and the ego massage.
@Bob Tyler: Thank you (now that I can place a name to a great guy) for the PFD loan!
@ Wildwood: Lupe would have to tell you the name of the rapid, but i think it was about three down from the private put-in. As for excuses
; I found some muscles used for rolling that are sore after a 20mi. bike ride the previous day.

Jason, I don't think anyone was laughing, but had total empathy (we've all been there). I was dry but cold so I know you were miserably wet and cold. The only thing that I was saying under my breath is, "I will not get wet, I will not get wet".
Thanks for a great trip everyone! Going to be difficult to head back to the office tomorrow.
