Buffalo End of 2011 - Meet at Baker Ford 10am Saturday

Post by Richard » Fri Dec 23, 2011 7:22 am

Weather is still looking good for Saturday. We may have some wind up to 15mph . . . nothing major. I am undecided about going up today. If I do, I will be out of contact so here is the plan and those who have expressed interest so far.

Mehmet Serdar Kılınç and friend from Fayetteville. Mehmet is a graduate student at UofA.
Sky Heye
Shark Attack
Wildwood
Rodger Keesee
Richard
Painter Bob
Eddie Vollman

We will meet Saturday morning at 10am at BAKER FORD.

Lon -92.8136

Paddling will be to Grinders or Gilbert depending on time.
We may do some hiking in the area as well as paddle. That will be a group decision.

It is very likely we will be on the river for lunch so bring one.

Richard, if you end up going, where might you put in? I've been wanting to do the Maumee or 14 - Rush trip the past couple of weeks. Also thinking of DeBo's trip if that's what works out. Those "if's" are so handy!

Are you sure you're not really a kayaker?
Kind of an Iffy thought, but IF you really need to know, IF I was not a canoe camper and IF I did not like canoes and IF I wanted to waste money on something THEN I might be a kayaker. But only IF I was forced to be one.

Jan, I am open to suggestions. Keep in mind this is still pretty iffy.

The weekend looks very promising. Highs in the 60s, lows in the upper 30s. Hard to beat this time of year.

Richard -
I can't do an overnight, but I'm open for a Sat. float.
That would let you take in the New Year's thing as well.
Either way the weather has to be better than Duluth!

It is looking more and more like it is a go. I am inclined to say Tyler Bend and do day stuff based out of there. Highs will be about 60º, lows about 40º

According to the Weather Channel, the jet stream is running way north of normal and keeping cold air in Canada. They expect the Jet to drop all the way down to the Gulf in January bringing the cold stuff to us big time.

Bottom line, do it ASAP while it is warm!!!!

We're hosting NYE festivities or I'd be all over that. I'll be at Boswell Shoals 1/13 - 1/16 (MLK). Probably base camp there and do day floating/fishing. Kid friendly.
You come too.

Ricardo -

Keep me in the loop. Sat. float from Tyler area will work
for me for this time of year.

Let me know when you want to start shuttles and I'll get
up there that morning. Should take till 10 to warm up anyway.
That would be 6 to 7 hours of good daylight left to paddle.

I will be away from the computer today (Thur). It looks like Saturday is a go. At this point I am not sure if I will be going up on Friday or if it will be Saturday morning.

I'm watching & waiting . . . and hoping to go. I want to do the float with DeBo on Sunday, too. Buffy looks like a good level.

Hope to see y'all there! :kayak:
