Cadron Saturday, 11:45 at take-out

Post by maggiepowell » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:42 pm

A few of us will be paddling the Cadron tomorrow. We will meet at 11:45am at HWY 65 Bridge.

So far it's Renee, Jason, Basil and Hilary Hicks and myself. We will have to put in at Indian Springs bridge.

Hope you can join!

Highway 65 Cadron access has not had litter picked up in a very long time and needs it badly. Cowper and I will be there at 10AM to do a cleanup. If any of you can get there by then, your help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Great day on the Cadron with all you guys. Maggie and I were the only gals on the trip. One flip Maggie endured by someone that had to hog the eddy and made her flip. :poke2: You know who you are Cowper (oops) told off on him. :poke2: My first time at the Pinnicle Springs put in. Was not sure about doing a seal launch down the hill so Maggie and I both were eased into the water with the help of a rope tied to the kayaks and two trustworthy souls holding the rope. Wow I said trustworthy. Who Cowper and Cole? Anyway we had a great day and lots of fun. I got to test out my drysuit on a purposefull swim to test it out and see if it worked. Looking forward to more winter paddling. :yahoo:

Karla, sorry you had to trust those two characters. Been out of town, and had too many errands to catch up on to go.

I was going to defend Cole's honor and say that he is generally trustworthy when not around me. But then I remembered, there is documented video evidence of him ejecting Roger from the shredder and then celebrating, and that was a Richland trip I missed. So while I enjoy the mischief we create together, he's fully capable of creating it whether I'm along or not.

DeBo sends her thanks to Cole and Karla for showing up early enough to help with the road cleanup. We know it was short notice, so we didn't expect a crowd and every set of hands made a big difference. We managed to get the road south of the bridge, and the areas under the bridges, looking significantly better. We also hauled a bunch of dumped trash away from the put-in bridge; we'll contact the landowner later to let him know who did this. I think it is important to keep making the point that when cars with boat racks are seen parked on or near your property, the amount of trash goes DOWN, not UP!

We also appreciated Doug's assistance on the downriver trip; his canoe allowed us to carry out a lot of garbage that the 'yaks would have had to leave behind. But a raft trip is needed; there were some items even the canoe couldn't get... (big tires, remains of the outhouse that washed away from Cadron Creek Outfitters, etc.)

I'm in for bringing my canoe again this weekend. especially if we're trying to pick up as much debris as we can. I'll forgo the front airbag, depending on the water level, so we can fit more in it.

I'll give that a "yaker's yes".

Saturday forecast is for 50 degrees and sunny. The only thing that will stop me is if the showers bring something else up, but right now the predictions are for < 0.5" rain, so we'll probably see more of a stabilization of current levels, vs a big rise.

With diesel near $4 a gallon, I'm coming to appreciate the Cadron playground more than I have in the past. It is one of very few places where I can go play for less than $10 in fuel. It also has an excellent River Time / Drive Time ratio.

I'll bring at least one canoe; or maybe I'll paddle two so I can haul more tires. ;)

Cowper, if any one can do it, you can.
Are you planning to paddle two canoes at the same time?
Please post some photos as Cadron is about a tank of gas one way from me.

Maybe after we get Christmas completed!

I can picture Cowper standing with a foot in each Canoe with a long kayak paddle making it look easy! Seeing that would be worth the drive!!!!
