Need some new paddle buddies

Post by paddlinfool » Mon Dec 05, 2011 11:57 am

Looking to do some paddling tomorrow (12/6/11) and some new friends to do it with... I can probably shuttle a half-dozen boats and feel good about running III-IV's.

I'm willing to go anytime but know NOTHING . I'm sure it would be worth some laughs but I don't want to be a drag on someone's trip . Let me know if/when you have the time for me . I have a Remix 69 and my son has a 59 . We've done a lot of WW rafting and some canoeing but have only been on flat water 3 or 4 times in the yaks . Eager to learn , I'm already hooked .

Mike, what happened to your old paddling buddies? Is this a bad sign? ;)
I can come up from Texas for tomorrow, (12/6) and would love to paddle something III & IV. I don't know the rivers up there though. Do you?

Thanks, Lorraine McPhee

BHK Okie--I'm in the Fort Smith area and am fairly inexperienced as well. I'm really interested in going from Devils Den to the Forest Service take out on Lee Creek on a weekend when the water is good. You won't be a drag on me--but I might be one on you!

Lorraine - that's funny! They work during the week and can't roll yet. I love paddling with them but III's are pushing the envelope for 'em. I was hoping to do something I haven't yet... like maybe lower Richland Creek.

Zach - I will give you a call in a little bit.

BHK Okie - I certainly understand and appreciate you enthusiasm but I would hate to put you and your son in danger. If you send me your number I'd give you a call next time I run the Cadron Creek @ 3-5 ft. It is a fun little (~ 4 mi) Class II run... great for beginners especially around 3ft.

Yup - for beginners/folks not ready for class III and beyond, Cadron is great. Eddies to catch, fun surf spots, learn to read water. And being slow to rise and slow to fall, I'll bet it'll still be at a fun level next weekend! (and maybe warmer too, as it's going to be pretty chilly on the creeks this week if you don't have good gear head to toe!)

I hope to go mid week once it drops to 4-5 feet...however I'm more or less paddling with only one good arm right now, so I'm not a good bet to count on for help!

;)
I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.

@paddlinfool: mike. Put me on your list of people to call when you do that cadron run. I did it a couple weekends ago and had a blast.

Hey paddlinfool thanks . I trust your judgement a lot more than mine . My son has school during the week anyway but I know what you mean . My cell is 918-448-9653 . I'm about 35-40 minutes from Ft.Smith but don't mind drivin and have worked quite a bit in Ar. so I kinda know my way around .
79big10 just let me know anytime . Planning on going to the Christmas party Sat. but I'm game for anything . You can probably talk me into doing something stupid with a little effort . If you're going to the Christmas party maybe we'll meet then . I'm taking the Wilderness First Responders Course starting the 15th for 7 days then it's Christmas so we may not get together soon but we will @ some point .
Thanks for the input guys
Terry

Lee Creek from the 220 bridge to the ACC takeout is a good beginners run at the current levels, except fr maybe one drop. With someone that knows the creek it should be ok..

glad you all are thinking about running.. West Texas is cold (15), blowing, and snowy. NOt weather for paddling, oh is it ever weather for paddling in West Texas?

BHK Okie and 79big10 - check your pms for my contact info...I'm in Fayetteville, fairly new to the sport and am always looking to get out.
