Rockport Sunday? CANCELLED

Post by Wildwood » Fri Sep 30, 2011 11:45 am

Cancelled for reasons I can't say on this board! :flame:

It's not my first choice but . . .

I know the generation schedule is minimal now that "summer is over." Is it navagable when they are not generating??
Anyone else wanna go?
I'm gonna be close by, so might as well try it again.

Here's a post from elsewhere on the forum where Outdoorboy :grin: linked to some great photos of the river at low flow: http://forums.arkansascanoeclub.com/vie ... =1&t=19991" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I bet Jim Krueger can remark on the navigability of the river.

I'm taking a beginner in one of my Remix XP10's. He should be able to drag down to right above the Ledge. Those are great pic's of the Ledge. It's nice to know what's under all the water when it's there.

Yes, I bet Jim has tons of info on the Rockport run. I've missed floating with him & Miss Marlo this summer. Only made one Rockport trip with him.

Thanks for the info.

Phil,
Prolly around noon. I've not coordinated with the other person. Since they are not generating at Remmel, I guess it doesn't matter. It just happened to be handy, so might as well try it.

Eminence is more in my head! I'm looking forward to that trip.

I just realized I don't remember how to get to Remmel from Rockport. I've only been there once and was following Jim. Which exit is Rockport? I know to go behind WalMart. (Yes, I have a bad case of the "duh, yeah's" today! ) Thanks.

Jan,

This Summer I have paddled the Remmel to Rockport section three times at low flow (200 cfs). It's certainly doable, and should be much more pleasant on Sunday than paddling it earlier at temps in the 90s
There are many boulders to paddle around but the shallow-clear water should offer much in the way of fish viewing. In addition, on the last two trips we've made here lately, we've seen a mature bald eagle twice in the first mile or so of the trip.
You should be able to navigate all the shallow riffles along the way however there are two major formations, sort of like the ledge, in that they stretch across the width of the river in a similar way. These two can be paddled through if you pick just the right slot.
When you get to 'The Ledge' at the end of the trip, we have been able to ooch-down the rocks out near the center of the river but it ain't pretty... You can also line your boats over. Good luck and have a nice day!

Best Regards
Jim

Jan,

After you drop offf your shuttle vehicle at The Ledge, go back to McDonalds (by Wal-Mart), turn left onto Hwy 270 and head on over the interstate and keep going about 5 miles or so to Jones Mill. You'll come to a large cable factory on your left, turn left just past it (in the curve of the highway), follow this small road about a mile, you'll pass lower Lake Catherine ramp, keep doing on and you'll pass through Entergys gate and on down to the river.

Thanks so much, Jim.

I paddled a l-o-n-g 8 miles on the Buffy yesterday. I'm heading back to Spring River next Wednesday & Thursday. I am ready for water, but it looks like I will have to wait for LouisCov's Eminence trip.

I hope to see you on the river soon.

Jan,

If we can join you and Louis up in Missouri next month, we will also look forward to the get-a-way :D If not, we'll see you both next Spring on the Caddo.

Best Regards
Jim Moose

In the meantime, be sure to note the route to Remmel for next time :kayak:

It would be great if y'all could join the Eminence float, Jim.

If anyone else wants to join us Sunday, we plan to meet at the Ledge around noon. I'm in a tan Jeep with a yellow Remix XP10, and a black one with pink spots.

See ya!
