Paddle for the Cure, Oct. 22
This is from Pam Hendrick who heads this event:
"PADDLE FOR THE CURE, Sat Oct 22nd, launching at 7a from Burns Park boat ramp, paddling to the Broadway bridge by 8a to cheer on the runners and walkers. The 1st annual PADDLE FOR THE CURE was in 2004 and was just just some buddies from Ozark Outdoor Supply joining me as I paddled downriver to celebrate my 5th year as a survivor. It was cold and rainy and I did not expect them to show. They did, I cried the whole way and we took this photo and jokingly called it PADDLE FOR THE CURE. This is a rogue non-event, just a bunch of paddlers who go to the link below to donate and then join us. Bring your own boat, wear a Coast Guard approved PFD, and paddle 4 miles downriver. Wear pink, wrap your boat in pink, show support. This will be the 8th year! See ya there!!!"
Just passing on the info in case others are interested.

Re: Paddle for the Cure, Oct. 22
I have created a facebook event. Please feel free to use it to invite others and also join us! My team is called Three Sisters Paddle for the Cure. It is for anyone and everyone who wishes to participate.
Last year was the first year my daughter and I participated. It was an awesome time and I hope we will have more participants this year! It is absolutely breathtaking to see the numbers of men, women, and children "Racing for the Cure."
Please paddle with us!

I would LOVE to do this! I have never been on the Arkansas River in my kayak. How is it? We have 10 foot Wilderness Systems Pamlicos.

If you want to join a team, We are looking for extra members for our team Our team is called "Three Sisters Paddle for the Cure." All you have to do is sign up at komenarkansas.org and then click on "join a team" It will ask you to choose a team...please pick ours! We have t-shirts for our team. I am expecting our team shirts t come in early next week. I will take a picture of them and post them on here...if I can figure out how...Looking forward to seeing my friends from last year and making new friends!!!

Re: Paddle for the Cure, Oct. 22
Thanks, Crane! We really appreciate it! That was such a nice brunch last year! It seems we have built quite a bit of interest in the event from my area this year. I am excited to say that we have at least 10 people participating from the Hot Springs area! We are calling our team "Three Sisters Paddle for the Cure."
We ordered t-shirts for our group but have had some difficulty getting them in. They will be ready tomorrow. We will be selling them for $20, with $5 of each shirt going toward the team fundraising goal of $450. We will bring our extra shirts to the Paddle for the Cure and sell the ones we have left. ..so bring cash!!!!
I am looking forward to seeing everyone I met last year and making new friends this year!

Fun paddle yesterday down the Ar River, nice to see many paddlers out and even a stand up paddle board.
Re: Paddle for the Cure, Oct. 22
It was a BLAST!!!!! I'm definitely down for next year!
Re: Paddle for the Cure, Oct. 22
Christy and all Paddlers and Rowers for the Cure, it was an honor and a pleasure to cook for all y'all Saturday morning!! Some of you asked for the recipe, which I'm happy to pass along in hopes I'll get to enjoy it some time:)
Crane’s Sausage Gravy
1 lb Jimmy Dean Original Sausage
1/4 cup Flour(or a little more to soak up grease)
2 cubes chicken bullion
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 tsp. minced garlic
Cavenders Greek Seasoning
Black Pepper
Brown Sausage in Skillet. Sprinkle with Cavenders and black pepper. Add in the minced garlic. Crumble the sausage as small as possible as it browns.
As the sausage browns, put the two bullion cubes into the warm water to melt them. When the sausage is well cooked and browned, and the grease is smoking slightly, spread the sausage across the skillet evenly. Sprinkle the flour across the top of the sausage all over the skillet and stir it onto the sausage. (The goal is to lightly cover all sausage and soak up all grease. Add more flour if the 1/4 cup is not enough to absorb all the grease) Let it cook for just a little bit, so that the flour on the bottom of the skillet starts to brown a little, but not burn. The browner you let it get, the more color the gravy will have:)
Pour in the milk and bullion-water. "Stir like hell"(as my Daddy explained to me, low those many years ago, to keep down the lumps.) Bring to a boil.
If it's too thick, add milk or water or even chicken stock, and stir. If it's too thin, just keep cookin' and that will pass. You can cover it and keep it on low heat for a long while, adding water or stock and stirring it in as necessary. Enjoy!! Crane
