This was towards the end of his dominance, but his impact goes far beyond his athleticism and skill. There was throw-away line in the video that he built his own boat, paddle, and helmet. He has been a major influence on hull design, primarily in racing C-1, but throughout the whitewater world as well.

Yes, I agree Roger. I feel the best instruction I ever received was running slalom gates on the Guadalupe river with Mark Poindexter.
I have an opportunity to buy my buddies old C1 slalom boat for cheap. It is a really nice boat. I will have to completely re-outfit it. But I am looking forward the challenge of that. And then of course I will have to learn to C1. Looks like another yaker may be headed to the "dark side!"
