I am curious how you guys store your boats. All of our smaller whitewater boats will stand up in my garage, but our 10' rec boats are too tall. I am just curious what you guys do to get your boats up off the floor.

I hang one from the ceiling of the garage using self cinching straps and eyebolts. I bought a pulley system that is designed to hang bikes that should be a little easier to hoist and work for kayaks too, but alas I have not yet found the time to install it yet.

i tried to hang them from the ceiling with eyebolts and rope, but it was a pain to get them up there, probably wouldnt put them back up after i took them down. i spent $31 at lowes buying rope, eyebolts and some carabiners that had built in rope cinchers. i just got back from omtc and they had the kayak hangers that tom suggested for $36. i guess ill be taking some stuff back to lowes.

I can put up a pic later, but I use these straps to stack my boats on the wall in my garage. I like that they have a paddle holder integrated into the top.

Here is what I do. The boards hold the rope open so I can carry a canoe in on my shoulders... Put the canoe on the board and set it down on the floor and get out from under it.... Then I just put a rope around the other end which is measured to length so a carabiner will clip on a eye bolt in the wall. Works great for me and I can load big boats by myself!!

We converted a boat trailer we were given to hold/carry our kayaks. The boats stay on that all the time - We cover the openings of the kayaks with mesh to keep the "critters" out & put a tarp over the trailer for additional weather protection. We only have a carport for now.

It looks like we have a BIG power boat with the tarp tossed on it so we keep the trailer hitch locked & keep the trailer chained as well. Locks only stop honest people.... but we live out in the country on a dead end road so not much traffic.

Link below to what I have with plenty of reviews for feedback. Simple just put a big nail in stud on wall angled up & hang (wouldn't use eye bolts shown that come with kit). Take you 10 minutes or less to put together. Takes up minimal space. I have mine set where kayak hangs just off floor so no heavy lifting & hosting. You can connect these together or nail up each set separately so you could probably get 3 kayaks on one wall if you have 8 foot ceilings. Would recommend nailing each separately for added strength vs. attaching loops together & having weight of more than one kayak on nail.

I built a rack to store mine out of 2x4s and 2x6. It fits in the space between the garage door and the wall. I hang one of the kayaks in a rope saddle so the hull doesnt become warped from sitting on the hard surface.

really cheap to build

Posts are cemented in the ground. Kayaks are padded on the edge. No warping after 5 years.

Lot's of good suggestions here thus far! For storing our own fleet of ten kayaks in the shop, I have done as 79Big10 has arranged his, just because I'm a 'Birdhouse/Birdbrain' carpenter, and just like wood. Some of my plumbing and electrician friends have made themselves similar rigs, only using a more modern product referred to as uni-strut, it's used to suspend conduit and pipes, but works very well for kayak bunks along walls such as this, and has the added advantage of easy adjustment if needed so later on.. With my Canoe, and antique flat-bottomed boat, I have also used Gannon's rig with the ropes and spreader bars, this works really well with those longer, heavier boats.
The #1 enemy though of all plastic boats is sunlight, either direct, or diffused for long term storage. No matter the storage/rack configuration you choose, if at all possible, do store your boats in a shed, garage, under the house in a crawl space, etc. than outside. .02cents worth

I have one in the loft,one in the storage building out back,one in the back yard on the ground and one on the floor in my storage unit.
The best place for a boat is on the water but building a boat rack is high on my to do list.
