Rare sighting on bird island

Paddling out to bird island before sunrise was really enjoyable. Arrived 30 minutes before daybreak under a full moon. Daylight arrived and things got busy. I think every egret in garland county was on the roost along with thousands of purple martins.
A brown pelican that had been sighted by the state park interpreter susan adkins did a fly by. First one ever seen on lake ouachita. I have seen white pelicans before but never a brown.

Great photo. I grew up on the southwest coast of Florida and all we ever saw were brown pelicans. Had no idea there were white ones until 7/8 years ago at Russellville when a friend told me the pelicans were at the lock and dam. Imagine my surprise to see white ones.

I did see a Pelican flying over Lake O Saturday morning. First time I had see one at Lake O. Don't know if it was a Brown or a White but the form was unmistakable.

Apparently the pelican is big news to birders around here. I will tell the park service the pelican is still here. The martins will be gone soon and the eagles will be back.
Do you have the date and time and location of sat sighting?
