WIt's getting close to that time again to help keep Lee Creek clean....
Come on out if you can, and help spread the word if you can't. Boaters are generally good stewards and the non-target audience when it comes to spreading the message of stewardship. We boaters do know a lot of folks though, some of which might not usually participate in such events or even be a steward.... if that's your case then spread the word and send'em on down!
The RV chapter is being headed up by Dave Thomas and are going to meet up and check in on the lower portion of the cleanup area, and the NW chapter is going to meet up and check-in at the Day use Horse Area at Devils Den State Park.
Door prizes and lunch will be at the Day Use Horse Area after clean up so be sure not to miss out!

Should we bring anything? I assume this won't be on water since it'll most likely still be very dry. So, just boots and work gloves? Should we bring trash bags?

Alright! it's great to already have the interest of some great volunteers.
Curtis- The long range forecast is looking pretty poor for rain, but you never know. If there's some water that will offer a chance for some paddle and pick up, but if there's no water then we'll just target the river access areas, and other places along the river that tend to get trashed most.
We'll have cloth and latex gloves, water, trash-bags, and even a few trash grabbers at the check-in locations.
Just bring yourself and some family or friends. Oh yeah, if you bring any

just keep it in a cup and you should be okay in the park.

things handy to have: a good pair of work gloves. latex gloves are going to rip just as soon as you pick up your first shredded beer can. get something like a hoe handle, drive a long nail just far enough in so it won't come out. cut the head off and grind the exposed end down to a point. this will be indespensible when stabbing for cans in briar thickets. wet wipes and hand sanitizers. HEAVY DUTY trash bags for all the glass bottles, shards, wet diapers and other items that poke thru or weight down the flimsy bags. you may wish to bring a first aid kit for cuts and scratches.
i've been on lots of river cleanups....lee creek wins hands down for the most trashed out i've ever seen. sad really. it's such a beautiful little creek.

Something else that is good to bring is a large coffee can with a plastic lid - for holding broken glass and other sharps. You can usually find them in the recycling bins when you take your recycles to be recycled if you do not drink coffee that comes in a can.
Things that you would not touch with a 10 foot pole? when I take the canoe, I literally have a 10 foot pole with a fishing retrieval net bolted on the end. It lets me get places I do not want to go or get cans deeper than the hoe I also carry.
Do not know if I will be healed enough to go on this clean up, so i will loan out the pole if anyone wants to carry it.

I'm very happy to say that we have a pretty good crowd showing up from our hiking group:

I told everybody there'll be free food! I hope I understood that right. Just let us know if we should bring anything for lunch.

In the past, the place has been natural dam. BUT, Dave and I talked about making the RV ACC check-in at the 220 aka silver bridge put-in since that may limit drive time for RV members.

The cleanup is from 9 til 2, but 12-2 is lunch and door prize time. I'd say just to coordinate with some folks that you'd like to hang out with while taking care of the creek.

You are correct. We should have enough for 250- 300 folks.

That is TOO funny, and a GREAT idea!

215 folk came out to keep LEE CREEK CLEAN!
They Cleaned the ditches, high impact camp sites, access points, illegal dump spots, and the creek bed.
Hero's they are, hero's that eliminated over a ton of litter from moving on down or into LEE
Stream Team Hero's also got rewarded with tents, cabin stays, and other sporting goods.
But Only 1 group of hero's won the LEE CREEK STEWARDSHIP PADDLE
although there are only 9 in the picture, they had over 30 out to participate.
Several ACC members came out, and Ozarks society as well, but if one or the other side could coordinate to sign in as the same bunch they would have won hands down.
There was even the first racoon I've ever seen that did not try to steal anyone's food!
Although it did get close to the place where the food was!
Thanks to everone that could make it and/or who continually help to take care of our rivers and streams!
