Central Chapter meeting tonight

Tuesday, June 28: Central Chapter meeting at the Oyster Bar (on Markham in LR) 7:30. Come early to grab a bite, tell some/hear some stories, meet new/old paddlers.

Program will be by Martin Maner of Central Arkansas Water regarding new access and policy on the upper Big Maumell River, an exciting new resource for paddlers.

For those that missed it, well, you missed a good one.

The program was good, but what I liked the most was just that as Martin talked, some of my faith that that one person can make a difference was restored. Now that he is an "insider" at Central Arkansas Water, attitudes toward public use of this area are slowly changing for the better. Science and reason are prevailing over long held opinions and "traditions" which had closed the lake to human-powered craft, and uses that are not counter to the primary goal of clean drinking water are being allowed. And more good things are to come in the future, with water trails on the river above the lake already under consideration.
