Great time Saturday: Remmel to Rockport

Post by Tim Eubanks » Sun Jun 19, 2011 10:24 am

To all who were on the river yesterday: thanks for showing up for our newbie friends' first time down  and specifically to Gary and Jim for running his 'yak down when he took a swim at the ledge. They were impressed with all the folks and the sense of community displayed. Also entertained by the inflatable-toy-riding alternative water craft folks.

Ditto on the great times!

Always have a blast when you can combine raft surfing, kids, new folks...

My preliminary scouting run out to the truck this morning indicates it was also a successful day for acquiring new stuff - I've got sunscreen, insect repellent, water guns, and even a nice spray skirt that I don't remember owning before yesterday...

I some how managed to lose three paddling gloves( one pr and half of another) someplace between the ledge and home....all three NRS w/o fingers....probably floating near the bottom some place! But it was a great time with my boating brethren!

Many thanks to all of you experienced boaters for encouraging us newbies to join in. Noah is still excitedly describing his trip over "The Ledge" to anyone and everyone who will listen. What a wonderful sport this is! The natural beauty of the landscapes and the building of friendships make for a perfect escape from the hectic fast-paced world. This float was a great opportunity to finally meet some of the people that I have only read from on this board. We hope to float with you again in the near future.

I had a wonderful time yesterday floating along on the cool water and just visiting with everyone. I'll bet this trip will become a pretty regular event most weekends from here on out this Summer. We'll look forward to next time!

I'd like to mention a big thanks to Ted and Entergy for the addition of that nice big, new, concrete apron at the bottom of the access road.
I guess the Spring floods took out the old crossing, but they really built it back nicely :)

Best Regards

Special thanks to Cowper for showing up just as I found out my top-off pump had swarmed on me. Would have been a prolonged repair.

Cowper brought out his pump at the 'Mid-Way' gravel bar to put some more air in his green raft, but I was really wondering if he was going to show the kids an even larger squirt gun when they were'nt looking......

The first trip over "The Ledge" is a memorable experience, mostly for the better. Always good to have some youngsters among the "newbies". If we don't have young newbies, we will run out of "oldsters".

Remmel to Rockport is a great place to get your feet (and other parts )wet this time of year.

Yes, indeed it was a good day. Hannah and Noah had an ongoing water war which I was caught in a couple times (strictly for my own benefit mind you). Sandy, Noah did very well, I thought. I think he would've loaded up and done it again. Nice to paddle with old friends and meet some new friends. Look forward to doing it again.... Next weekend maybe?

I know Edgar will post some pics. He doesn't go anywhere without a camera. :poke:

Y'all sure make me sorry I missed out on a fun trip. I will have to go next time, and try to bring Hunter (grandson) with me. Are y'all going again this Saturday?

Jan,

Can't commit 100% right now but, I'd say there's a 90% certainty that Clan Crawford will be going again this coming Sat. 6/25. Can't speak for the rest of the group but, without a rain to bring the rivers up, Rockport is the just about only game in town.
