I wrapped a green 17' mohawk canoe around a tree just past Jim Bluff below Ponca a few weeks ago (May 21) and when the park service tried to retrieve it, it was gone.
If you have any info, please contact me.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
I'm very sorry you lost your canoe, I have several kayaks, but only one canoe. I'd hate to loose any of them...
Best Regards

Unfortunately, paddlers misconstrue maritime law and apply the "River Booty" rule that says "Finders Keepers - Losers Weepers". I have seen it used by esteemed ACC members. I am thinking a course in ethics is in order.
We are all afflicted with Cognitive Dissonance. The greater our religious, social, financial or political affiliation, the greater the affliction. We hear what we want to hear. We believe what we want to believe. Truth becomes irrelevant.

Re: Lost: 17' Green Mohawk
IF I find something and it has a name and contact info on it, I make every reasonable effort to return it somehow.
If I find out later who some unknown gear belongs too, same thing.
If I incur significant costs removing a safety or navigational hazard, I may ask for or suggest compensation, but I still try to return it and I will go out of my way to help others on most occasions.
That said, I have in my day, found and later sold or given away/donated several boats and other gear that I could not find the owners to after 90 days and advertising my having found the boat or gear.
Have been on both sides of this discussion. I lost a kayak once to "river booty" after having made multiple strong attempts to retrieve my property (River was in high flood and it was in a log pile at Shoulderbone) and had posted official notices of loss with county, state, and federal (USFS) authorities. My name and contact info were written in boat, and it was on the float bags and foam walls as well, but I never saw or heard from it again. Was one of first "white" Hollowform kayaks at the time, and was probably considered 'prize" riverbooty by the yankees that made off with it.
You win some, you lose some. I ran a rapid I shouldn't have and thought I could at that level, and it was a lesson in many ways. When I turned loose of the boat, I decided living was worth more than the boat, and swam for my life to shore.
