We are planning a paddle on the Little Missouri this Friday June 17 for ones that are off work and can come. It looks like they will start releasing at noon (one hour prior to the time on the schdule). Probably will meet at the take out by 11 AM to arrange shuttle.

Post if your interested and able to make it.

It is in Murfreesburo. I will have to let someone chime in that knows the exact road name. I forget. Once in Murfreesboro it is not hard to find and the shuttle is not long.

Phil,

If you are from Blevins, just down the road from Murfreesboro, you're probably familiar with the layout of Murfreesboro. Hwy 19 heads North out of town on the North side, 13th street likewise heads from this intersection West and Northwest out about 2 miles or so to the river at a low-water concrete bridge. We'll be putting in at Riverside Park on Hwy 19, within sight of the Narrows Dam, and our take out is on the end of West 13th st. outside of Murfreesboro, right side of 13th street just before crossing the bridge (MBoro's Water Intake Plant) I hope this helps.

That would be highway 27. I had hoped to join you. I'm just 30 miles from the narrows Doesn't look like I'll make it now tho!

You lucky dogs!

I see there will also be water starting at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

I'm not healed up yet, but I will try paddling a few minutes this month.

Mike,
It will be pretty strange paddling the Lil MO without you; don't know if I'll make it. Get well soon so you can come out and play!! Jim has mentioned you both lately and was drooling at the time. He was saying that Jamie's Overflow was the color he always wanted, but didn't get since it wasn't in stock at the time he bought his. Now he is looking at the LL Remix and Jefe. No decision yet. :?: Take care. Maybe you can do the Lil Mo with us later in the summer.

This float looks extremely tempting (especially with the dry spell we're having). I see on the USGS that it's class II water. Caitlin (my daughter) and I could probably handle it, but I'm not sure about my nine year old son. Caitlin and I learned SO MUCH in whitewater school, but Noah wasn't old enough yet. Any input would be helpful. Is this Class II leaning toward III or Class II on the milder side. My husband has to work, so I can't leave Noah with his dad. We each have our own XP 9. Noah has floated middle Buffalo but not much else. I am open to advice. I'd love to join, but not if it's terribly challenging for a nine year-old.

Thanks,
Sandy

Sandy,

This is indeed a great cold-water, fun, float on a hot day but I trend more cautious in recommending it for anyone without practice in their boat, and good boat control. At 2 and 3 generators, the river is pretty swift with long stretches between pools to recover.

Best Regards
Jim

Sandy,
This link will lead you to the American Whitewater page with a discription of the water at 1 & 2 generators http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l/id/4114/. With 3 generators the water gets pushy and floods back into the trees along the banks leaving fewer places to pull over to dump a boat. If you do turn over, it may be a long swim. The take out is a must-catch eddy on the left in a fast chute, or a relatively short hike back through the woods with your boat.

Jim and Marlo,
Thanks so much for the honest information. It sounds like fun, but to err on the side of caution for Noah, we will probably not join you on this one. I'll keep an eye out for your next post on the Caddo and hopefully join in then if possible. I floated the Cadron with Chester, Victor, Minna and many others a few weeks ago and loved it. I'm a teacher so this is really my only time off (if you can call it that with all of the required Professional Development). I'm just desperately looking for some water to float while school is out. Thanks again for the input. Have fun and be safe.
Sandy
