Area Lake Reports?

Post by iYak » Mon May 23, 2011 11:51 am

With all the heavy rains, some of the area lakes are in bad shape and many ramps are closed.

I would like to go to Beaver Lake for Memorial, but I don't want to hit any trash/trees that may still be floating around. The last time I was there I hit a jet ski ramp/lift that was out in the middle of the lake just below the water line. I was going about 30 mph and it felt like it ripped the lower unit off, but fortunately it just messed up the prop. That was about 6 weeks ago before the floods...

I also heard that Tenkiller in Oklahoma is a mess.

If you have any info., please post.

I went to Beaver after the BIG rain/flood, but before this last couple of rounds. I think it was 4/30and 5/8. I use the ramp near Blue Springs on the West side of the channel. That ramp is accessible, but the pull through is under water. Hope there isn't someone with too much trailer in the first couple of parking spots so you can pull the U-turn. Chocolate milk color, lots of debris, typically 3''+ diameter branches. They seem to get blown into the narrow parts of the channels and get jammed so you have to idle, zig, and zag through the trash near War Eagle and Hickory Creek. I plan on waiting until the creeks are dry and the water is fishable before I hit the lake again. I don't wanna leave my outboard on the bottom of of the channel! :chicken:

Friend of mine mentioned the brown mud would stain your boat....perhaps he is just trying to get everyone to stay home so he has the lake to himself!

Thanks for the link Richard. I can handle the high water though, it's the debris in the lake that I'm worried about.

It looks like the Beave just got 3 more inches of rain, that won't help the situation.

On the flip side, Fall Creek got 2.5 " , so Lee Creek should be good this evening.

Right now there are no gravel bars on Lake Ouachita and many islands are just lower unit deep under the surface. Bird island is a great place to fish at this time!

Google Earth is showing anywhere from 4-6" over Beaver so far, and there is another big storm bearing down on it. I'll go ahead and give up hope for Beaver this weekend :shock:

Here is a video of the flooding in Rogers today http://www.5newsonline.com/news/northwe ... 9591.story" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the info about Ouachita, I did not know it was still high. Here is a link that I found for ramp closures and such at Ouachita: http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/lakes/ar/ouachita/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
