Good family camping/activities on the buffalo

Post by jsmarsch » Sun May 22, 2011 8:21 pm

I have to confess -- most of the time that I go camping it's for whitewater! I would like to take my family camping somewhere on the buffalo memorial day weekend.

Can anyone suggest a good campground? We might or might not throw a canoe on the river. A real plus would be a campground with easy access to a shallow section of river so that the kids can wade out and play.

Any good suggestions?

Buffalo Point. Nice sandbars close by, shallow sloping bottom for wading.

Ozark! It is probably the best choice for family camping. Sand and gravel for kids by the river. Flush toilets. No showers. Get there early. The word has gotten out and it fills up faster than what it use to.

Gotta agree with the above posters. Ozark would be my first choice, Buffalo Point being a close second, and Tyler Bend third. The campgrounds WILL BE PACKED. Just above the Pruitt put in is a good swimming wading hole if you camp at Ozark. The Hwy. 65 Access area and Shine Eye are both easily reached from TB. Also, the Hwy. 14 Access area near BP is a good palce to wade. The outfitters near BP offer a +/- 1 mi. tube float from Hwy. 14 to BP. Have fun. :D
