Re: Buffalo River Clean Up (Saturday, May 21)
From the lost found area:
ps - Near where we found the canoe half, there is a big plastic round flat bottom with domed top stock water or fertilizer tank on the left hand bank above the gravel bar just up in the trees, partially tilted up on edge, top facing up stream. Should be real "interesting" to try to get it out. Might be rolled down to river on edge like a giant wheel, but I could see it squishing anyone who got in the way. Maybe haul it out with a raft or two canoes, or float it out in high water IF intact, but would probably get stuck everywhere due to width and weight if you tried to float it. Did not check it out further as I had one of Richard's grandkids with me, so do not know if it is empty. Would most likely take a few people to get it down to the river, not that I am waving a red flag in front of Cowper or anyone else in the ACC, but this coming weekend is supposed to be a clean up weekend with the Buffalo National River Partners. It would probably qualify as largest object retrieved.
See Painter Bob's reply to read how it got there.

I've felt the touch of healing hands, neath the willow trees and birch, cause the water's my religion, and the river is my church. Kenny

OK, you got me. Will be calling for details on recommended tools of destruction to bring.
For those that think you can get away with just watching the show, don't count on it. I'm already on to the fact that many of my friends experience sudden selective hearing loss - that trick won't work. If you're nearby, you ARE subject to being suckered in to helping...

Trash: Get a little every time you go!

Middle section also needs attention. Lots of tires near Whisenant Bluff area. There is even one nearly buried at the Tyler Bend access.
Keep a watch on the weather. The cleanup may get rained out.
I have a grandson's high school graduation to attend on Saturday so I won't be there.

We are all afflicted with Cognitive Dissonance. The greater our religious, social, financial or political affiliation, the greater the affliction. We hear what we want to hear. We believe what we want to believe. Truth becomes irrelevant.

A full sized crow bar makes an excellent tool for digging tires out of gravel bars, etc.
Also, bring some lengths of rope to lash down tires, etc to keep the load from shifting really helps.
We could have hauled out more tires during last year's clean up had we the people and boats.
