UPDATE #1: TUE MAY 10: This is May. We need to take advantage of this. I am taking three grandsons to the Buffalo.
===========================
GENERAL INFORMATION:
By now you know the drill. Arriving Friday is optional. We shuttle Saturday morning and do most of the paddling on Saturday. We try to be off the river and headed home by noon on Sunday. Sitting around a campfire Friday and Saturday nights and enjoying each others company has become a tradition.
Questions and suggestions are welcome. You may post them here or email Richard at rmmcfadden@yahoo.com
Some things you need to know. We have never had a problem but just so everyone knows on the front end:
1. For liability purposes this is not an ACC/Ozark Society sponsored activity. You and only you are responsible for your own actions.
2. This is a family friendly float. Children are welcome.
3. Alcohol is not forbidden but drunkeness and abusive conduct is.
4. If you use "fowl" language or need to smoke, please do so away from the group.
5. Treat others as you would have them treat you. Maybe even nicer.
We have been doing these trips since Oct 2007. In that time we have never had a problem. Quite the contrary. On the floats so far, we have been impressed with how well everyone has adhered to #5. That is one reason we keep going back.
If you have never been, we look forward to meeting you on the river.
FOOD:
Because of the various arrival and departure times of participants the simplest approach to meals is for each person to be responsible for his/her own. That does not preclude participants from getting together and pooling efforts. It also does not preclude pot lucks. So if you want to get with others to plan meals thats good. If we decide to pot luck a meal or two that is fine as well. But the responsibility lies first with the individual.
Breakfasts and Suppers will be at camp. We will stop for lunch on the river.
This has worked well so far and creates the least hassle. And we can gather around the campfire after dinner. Campfires have been great.
If need be, we will have a kitchen tent set up with tables for food preparation.
GEAR:
Each person is responsible for providing their own food and gear appropriate for the weather and water conditions. If you are just getting into canoe/kayak camping and are lacking some items please let us know. So far no one has been turned away because of lack of gear.
State Laws
15 MPH speed limits within the park are strictly enforced.
A PFD is required for each person. It must be worn by those under the age of 13.
The use of glass containers is prohibited within 100 feet the river.
Containers used for transporting food and beverages must be properly sealed.
When out of the cooler, beverages must be in a holder that floats or prevents the beverage from sinking.
A mesh container must be attached to the vessel suitable for collecting trash that can be securely closed.
All refuse, waste and trash must be transported to a place where they must be safely and lawfully disposed.
Updates will be posted here.

Hi Richard:
It will be great to paddle with y'all!!!
My group of 6 - 7 from Louisiana and El Dorado will camp at Kyles beginning Thursday night and Friday will paddle Ponca to Kyles doing the side hikes along the way. Anyone wanting to join us can share our campfire Thursday night at Kyles (look for an orange Marmot tent and a red Mazda Tribute with La license plates) or meet us Friday at 8:30 at Ozark Cafe in Jasper Friday morning.
Saturday we'll meet Richard at Ozark at 9:00 and shuttle back for a Kyles - Ozark run, do Ozark/Pruitt to Carver Sunday.
Richard, I can't believe my good luck. We planned this trip in December, and to be so fortunate as to be there when you'll be there is AWESOME!!!!! Thanks for letting us join you.

Louis, thank you for letting us join you. I am looking forward to it. I will be camping with three grandsons at Ozark Campground Friday night. Tent is black and orange with a silver rainfly. Gray Subaru with green and red canoes on top.

Richard, I'm trying to convince Roger to go Ponca to Kyles on Saturday. I think it's been almost 8 years since I've done that stretch. If I can't convince him, where will you be paddling Saturday and Sunday? I'm still kinda confused.
Re: BUFFALO RIVER - MAY 13-15 2011
Kim, I think Ponca to Kyles is going to be pretty low by Saturday.
Thursday:
Louis and his crew (BCOS) will arrive and camp at Kyles.
Friday:
BCOS will be paddling from Ponca to Kyles if there is enough water and will camp at Kyles Friday night.
Richard will arrive at Ozark with grandsons and will be camping at Ozark.
Saturday:
BCOS will shuttle vehicles to Ozark and meet Richard there at 9am. We will then go to Kyles and paddle Kyles to Ozark.
Sunday:
BCOS will paddle Ozark to Carver
Richard may also do that or at 1pm join the Ozark Society Buffalo River Chapter for a hike around Tyler Bend led by a park interpreter.

Please join!! We'll be camping at Kyles Thursday - Sunday for sure (if Kyles is full we'd move down to Ozark). Look for the orange tent near the burgandy Mazda Tribute with La. tags. Let me know what type vehicle and boat you're bringing and we'll be looking for you. Do you plan to arrive before dark? If we mis-connect be at the Ozark Cafe in Jasper Saturday at 8:00. I''m 60ish and will be wearing a blue tshirt.

Re: BUFFALO RIVER - MAY 13-15 2011
Hey Louis, thanks for the welcome. I will plan on meeting you at kyles on Fri. night. I am driving a green Ford SportTrac and bringing a complimenting green Mohawk solo canoe. As far as shuttling, I can carry two boats on my roof rack, but can also bring a trailer that carries 4 more boats if needed. Please let me know if the trailer could be used, otherwise I won't bring it. I will also bring some firewood for the communal fire. My plan is to camp with yaw'll Fri. night, then paddle Sat. morning with you guys, but I will be fishing too, so may be slower than the rest. I will then camp on the river Sat. night, and pull out on Sunday at Ozark, if I can get my vehicle down there from Kyles. Do you have folks doing the vehicle shuttles, or using a river service? Look forward to meeting you. I see that you work for State Farm. We have that in common. I worked as an auto adjuster for them 1988 thru 1993. Now am a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Eureka Springs, Ar..

Re: BUFFALO RIVER - MAY 13-15 2011
Sounds good Chris.
If you camp on the river Saturday night and take out at Ozark or Pruitt (Hwy 7) Sunday we could shuttle you (probably your boat too) back to Kyles around 5 or 6 pm.
Feel free to call today (Thursday) while I'm on the road and getting reception, about 7:30 am to 2 pm, 318-834-4771.

What's the latest plan for Saturday float. If Gary and I happen to come, where do we meet and what time for Saturday. Not sure yet but if we come we will see you there.
