Drowning on the Mulberry
Drowning on the Mulberry
Does anyone know about a possible drowning on the Mulberry yesterday afternoon?
Re: Drowning on the Mulberry
drove by lots of cars at Huggins Hole & Redding. News said a kayaker was missing and had not been found as of that time.

Re: Drowning on the Mulberry
I wondered why I met so many official vehicles towing UTVs the morning.
Re: Drowning on the Mulberry
I came across the wife and accompanying group yesterday afternoon just upstream of Redding at the Huggins Loop access. They said he had just went under about 5 minutes before me and my group got on scene. We searched the pool that they were in and then I canvased the area immediately downstream. I'm still confused why the group of 8 or so that he was paddling with didn't immediately rescue him when they watched him go under...?
When we left Huggins loop yesterday there were quite a few search and rescue personnel on the scene and the dive team had just arrived.

Re: Drowning on the Mulberry
I paddled up on the same scene about five minutes after it happened as well. Sad day for his family. We were camped out at Huggins from the night before. The authorities searched till dark and arrived this morning with the sun rise. His brothers and friends were still combing the banks this morning when I was able to leave. I really wish the family strength through this immensely terrible accident.

I called Turner Bend and asked about it this morning, and was told as far as they knew, authorities were still searching for the victim.

Re: Drowning on the Mulberry
Any news?
Re: Drowning on the Mulberry
Can anybody provide details...I am under the impression the MB is a class 2 float. He went under? Did he fall of a raft, kayak, could he swim, PFD?
Re: Drowning on the Mulberry
I was at Mulberry today with a small group which included Painterbob. Don't know who gave him a rundown but his report was alcohol and no pfd. Although Mulberry is a class II float, pretty good volume pushy water right now (level at about 3.1 this a.m.) so there are certainly plenty of ways it could have gone down.
I didn't hear anything else... don't know if Bob has any more details.

The news said he was wearing a "like jacket". I just can't imagine this was true unless he was snagged by a bottom root ball?
