A big change for Osage creek
A big change for Osage creek
I just got word that the dam that was built in 1861 has washed out. For those that have been on the creek, this is the 2nd drop. I have some pics that I will try to post later in the week.
Re: A big change for Osage creek
wow Marc, I didnt know that the damn blew out. Scott must have been too wigged about the flood to mention it. I have pictures of the flash flood at the put-in that caused all the damage and flooded Scotts house. I hiked the gorge after the big one, and there are many changes in the creek. The creek corridor is blasted clean, with very little flood debris left behind. In the Mushroom, ther has been a new 6' boulder wash into the main channel, and the rock that creates the main drop is becoming undercut. Strange sights like spare tires and deck remains are stuck high in trees, but the creek is definately recovered from the ice storm. Pictures of the flood@ buildingosage.blogspot.com

Wow! That's amazing news indeed. IF the owner wants to rebuild the dam (and I realize they may not), perhaps we should let them know we would be happy to get some labor there to help out with that and/or flood cleanup in general. I'd chip in some bucks for materials too. Definitely want to help them out all as much as possible.

P.S. - I remember the first time we were there, we debated whether that rock on the right was very undercut or not. Turned out, not so much. Sounds like the Mushroom may have more bite to it these days. I wonder about Switchback - maybe a whole different rapid now...
