Suggestions for this weekend
Suggestions for this weekend
Trying to plan on where to float this weekend. Thinking about the Middle of the Buffalo or the Kings River or the upper section of the Mullberry. Anybody else got any suggestions.

mcguire to cherry hill on the ouachita with a stop in between at riverbend ranch for the fly-in... check out the planes & copters, live music & a 4-H burger... beach 'em just past lion rock and hike up the bank... its right on the water & you wont have to burn a tank of gas to get there....... http://www.planecrazyusa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: Suggestions for this weekend
A stop at the River Bend Ranch sounds like it might be fun. Should be able to put in at McGuire early on Saturday and reach there just in time for the festivities. The water down to there should still be fairly good. Anybody else up for the trip?

Re: Suggestions for this weekend
Marlo and I are also thinking Saturday will be a good day out anywhere :) The Caddo looks a tad low, the Cadron lower float was my first choice but looks like it may be a little higher than I'd prefer for everyone in the group, the upper ouachita looks pretty good, but I think I'd like a change of scenery from Dragover and am thinking about the fairly long trip from Oden to Rocky Shoals access. Suggestions, we'll visit more later. At any rate, the forecast looks pretty pleasant!

Jim, the Cadron should be good level Saturday. Might give someone a call and see if we can put in upper section like we mentioned before. I want a change of scenery too. Might even head to Mulberry if others are going. It will be dropped by then too. It was loads of fun last week below the 4 foot level.

I know it is long ways but didn't take us but 3 hours to get there. We could do Ponca? Another option.

I have floated above and below the Oden to Rocky Shoals and I don't know about the water between these 2 points, but I can advise you against camping at Rocky Shoals if that is your plan. If you want to camp I would suggest Shirley Creek Float Camp or Fulton Branch Float Camp if you want peice and quite.
Oden to Rocky Shoals section should be equal in difficulty to Dragover.
McGuire between Pine Ridge would be smoother than the lower sections if you are concerned about the skills of any of your party.

Re: Suggestions for this weekend
Thanks Van!
After we floated Dragover recently, Marlo and I stopped by Rocky Shoals CG just to refresh my memory about the place, and I agree with you, it looks pretty 'moth-eaten'... Too bad the forest service has divested itself of taking care of many of these campgrounds in the last few years and turned them over to the various counties to administer...
At any rate, I for one mostly make day trips on the rivers now as I've gotten older, I now like that travel trailer and comfy bed :)
I haven't made the Oden trip in many years but think it should be fine. Thanks for your suggestion about the upper trip, I like hamburgers and airplanes, Dad was an Army pilot when I was growing up :)
Have a great weekend!

Jim,
Pretty sure we're staying home this weekend but I remember the trip from Pencil Bluff to Sims being pretty nice. Y'all have fun and stay safe whereever you go.

Change 2 to plan B :)
I think Marlo and I will head to the Dragover CG by 11am tomorrow, then shuttle up to the Sims bridge to put-in. The level should be still pretty frisky and weather very nice. Interested parties welcome.

Change 3 to plan B,
Marlo and I will be meeting Ann and Edgar at the Glenwood Bridge about 10:30 for a run on the Caddo somewhere. The Ouachita is still up a tad more this AM than I'd prefer. Interested parties still welcome.
