Re: Best/favorite surfing wave or hole in Arkansas
Like a lot of river features, I believe it has changed. But years ago Surfing Rapid on Big Piney used to be the place to be. Big wave, retentive but not that scary and room for multiple kayaks, canoes and even rafts. Always several boats in the trough doing spins and what not.
Every one would run down to the wave and in the colder days there would be a nice fire going on shore.
Just a hoot to hang out with your buds, jump on the wave and surf till you got tired, then go to the bank recover and back to the wave.

I know it's not the best but my vote goes out to the Ford, simply because it runs when nothing else is and I can go get at least some play.
I wish we had better local play though

Even though it hasn't ran at a big level since
November of 2009, my vote goes to WISTER WAVE.
Good eddy service and when there's a lot of boats
there's always carnage. I like the 5000-6000 cfs range.
Not too fond of the 4000-4400 cfs, gets a nasty hole at
that level. Bring on the rain!

under the bridge at the north fork of the ILL bayou is the best ive seen, but it has to be big water for it to go. Its a big wave with a nice eddie above and below it. Only bad things was there were boat size trees coming down river at us while we were on the wave and they came fast.

Dierks or Wister Wave. There was an awesome wave at the take-out bridge of Baker Creek one time at some level I can't recall, but I don't know if that is common, it was fun though.
There is actually a bunch of surf/playspots in Texas when there is good water. Only a couple people have surfed it at a the right level, but there is an amazing wave on the Blanco River in Texas just above I-35. The whole river gets constricted into two tubes and shoots out of them making some sadistic M-Wave like feature. I have only caught it once, I really sucked at the time, and it seriously kicked my a**... I don't know what the flow was, but it is the fastest feature I have ever touched. I seem to recall the surfer left side of the feature being next to a bluff wall and pretty undercut. Unfortunately the flow window in which it is really good is small compared to the window in which it is not in or the window in which it is terminal.

Trigger Gap.
Haven't been there in a while, but there used to be a big glassy wave for all-day surfing, and behind it a nice hole. You could surf until it hurt, then back into the hole all in one ride.
I've seen just about every move pulled off here and there was something for all skills and everyone.

My vote is Buck 'n Flush on Lee. I know it's not the big glassy wave it used to be back in "the day" but it is still a great place to play and at a good spot on the run ( just before take out). And with enough water, is still a beautiful wave. It'll always be the place I learned to surf and sat on the rocks and watched as my wife to-be surfed for the first time as well. It was a cool place to hang out at the end of the work day when everyone was trying to catch the elusive summer rainstorm run after work. I'll never forget those 90 mph trips down Lee Creek dirt road at 6pm trying to make it before sunset, or walking the shuttle back to the car in the dark. It'll always hold a place in my heart.

My favorite wave in Arkansas is the one at the lip of Paradise falls. Though, surfing it could be a bit dicey...
Smile, summer run-off is coming!!!

Re: Best/favorite surfing wave or hole in Arkansas
my top five picks #5 cartwheel hole ( rockport)
#4 mister frothy (rockport)
#3 third hole at 900 (Deirks)
#2 wister wave OKLAHOMA not ARK.
#1 second hole 700 Deirks
listed only park_n play because thats what makes a playspot exactly that and not a down river play wave/hole. #5 at 7000 cfs # 4 th same # 2 at 8000 of course
