I basically overnighted it. This is a looooooong float. You need to be on the river by 10 or so. We made the mistake of getting on by around 1:30 and got caught in pitch black darkness / a storm with about two hours of paddling left. Most of the banks and sides of the river are extremely rocky as is the river bed (boulders). But there are plenty of places you could find a place to throw up a tent and build a fire, no campground though except for right at the put in which is a little wildlife office space near Hollis. The only takeout is at the low water bridge near Deberrie. Here's some more detailed info about the river put in / take out:

http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l/id/3929/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, only go when it's high enough (~ 4 feet) to run, when this rivers shallow it is a terrible, dragging pain in the a**. But other than that I love it when it's up, and you're on time, it's really scenic and a decent class II+ river to run, very, very remote. Hope this helps.

I have float fished a few different sections in that area. Their are some gravel bars as I remember that you could pitch a tent but their is also a lot of private land down through there. I have mainly been on from hwy 71 down to where hwy 28 crosses it the 2nd time heading east
