I am wanting to take my wife and son (almost 5) down the Buffalo on our way up to Branson. We will be in a raft and gear isn't an issue. I was just wondering what stretch would be the best. We will get to a put in with enough time to paddle for about 3-4 hours before dark. Next morning will have plent of time for whatever. Want to do a stretch that has good hikes, waterfalls, ect... Also, want a neat camp spot.
Thanks for any help!!
questions about doing an overnighter on the Buffalo
Re: questions about doing an overnighter on the Buffalo
North Maumee to Hwy. 14 is a nice stretch with a great big sandbar on river left just across from Spring Creek (about 1/2 mile or so above Spring Creek Access). Can usually catch a few small mouth just above the sandbar off of river left. Not too far and just about right for a one-nighter.

Ponca to Kyles is a great section for an overnight trip. There is great scenery and there are plenty of great hiking opportunites, including a short hike to Hemmed in Hollow. The water level will be your only issue. It may be too low, depending on when you are planning to go. Make sure to check the water level before you leave especially if you are taking a raft.
