Piney Questions?

Post by ebell » Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:45 pm

Thinking of doing the Piney for the first time and I have some questions.

1. How long is the trip from Heltons Farm to Longpool. I know its about ten miles or so. Approximate time in hours please.

2. Do the Moores offer a shuttle serivice on Sunday?

thanks
eric

The times I've paddled from Helton's to Long Pool it it's taken around 5-6 hours depending on how much playing we did.
I don't know about the Sunday shuttle. When I've paddled up there this time of year the shuttle situation has always been iffy.

If the level is still good in the AM and y'all decide to go give me a holler. I may be interested.

Last time a group of us did the Piney(Heltons to Longpool), we put on a little after 1 pm and got out right before dark. The Moores don't shuttle after 1200. If you bomb the run and don't play much(there are alot of places to play) you can be off in 2.5 to 3 hours with a good level of flow, but I would count on it being a whole day affair especially given the shuttle, any stops or swims.
Think the shuttle is 50.00. It is a beautiful section of the river.

Sorry to thread-jack, but I would also be curious to know what the Helton's access situation is presently? Still pull up and pay your couple o' bucks at the porch? I have been wondering about the git-in situation up there.
Smile, summer run-off is coming!!!

Yes you can pay Mrs Heltons son or leave it on the porch.

Easiest way to determine shuttle is to call and talk to Debbie.
