Mulberry River Clean Up Day

Post by GN YAKN » Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:37 pm

Saturday March 5th is the annual trash pick up event at Turner Bend. The ACC has always been big supporters of Brad and his crew for this event and hope this year is no exception.

I'm thinking seriously about making a weekend out of the trash pickup and staying over Saturday night up on the hill.

Weather for Sunday looks promising for a boat ride! Come join me. We got minimum accomodations but plenty of spots to pitch a tent.

Might need 4WD if we get the predicted rain on Friday night. Send me a PM if you need directions.

80% chance of rain on Friday. I'm thinking Sunday could be a huge day to paddle!!! 60 degrees and sunny!

I floated from Little Mulberry to Hoop N' Holler and picked up a ton of cans, a tire, a chair and a few other things and dropped them off at High Bank on the Byrd's trailer. Overall, I was pretty surprised at how little trash I saw on the river itself. I guess maybe a crew had already passed through. Good Float! It was awesome to see all he volunteers on 215.

It was a spectacular day for the Mulberry River! Kudos to everyone that was able to participate! Thanks too, to all the sponsors Southtown Sporting Goods, Rivertown BBQ, Wiederkehr, Post Familie, Belle Point Beverages, Arkansas Stream Team, the City of Russellville, and the Pack Rat for dishing out all kinds of sweet prizes to give away. It was awesome to see that every junior paddler that was there received a prize. Also, kudos to the the U.S. Forest Service for supplying the trailers and hauling off the trash. I know of one piece of trash in particular that's going to be a pain to haul away  :poke:. However, it's better than the alternative of it sitting dangerously in the river, all 250+ pounds of it. Oh yeah...and another BIG thanks to everybody at Byrd's Adventure Center and Turner Bend for providing the venues. I know I left someone out, please chime in so they get recognized. I wonder, what trash other folks recovered from the river?

It was a huge day in many regards! Thanks to everyone that provided the great food and door prizes.

There were people out all over the place picking up trash on Saturday in the Valley of Love!

Good times and good peeps!
